SIMONETTA CAVALLI / MEZZOSOPRANO
Simonetta Cavalli, born in Bologna, received her first musical training in Center Italy. She obtained her singing diploma with distinction in 1995 at the “Benedetto Marcello” Conservatory of Music in
Venice.
She specialised in Lieder and Opera with Brigitte Fassbaender, and
in Baroque music with Gloria Banditelli. She attended courses for
Mozart and Monteverdi repertoires at the Claudio Desderi Academy, and other opera specialisation courses with Alain C. Billard,
Margaret G. Baker and Sherman Low (borsa di studio premio musica da camera Città di Conegliano).
She made her theatre debut on 1993 at Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in
Trieste as Dritte Knabe in “Die Zauberflöte” by W.A. Mozart under
the musical direction of Lü Ja – production: Stefano Vizioli.
She has performed under famous conductors: Arnold Östmann,
Claudio Desderi, Alberto Zedda, Alain Guingall, Jean-Claud Malgoire, Federico M. Sardelli and Rodolfo Bonucci.
She was furthermore selected by the Deutsche Oper in Berlin for Monteverdi opera “L’Incoronazione di
Poppea” and for a modern opera under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann.
A prize-winner at various national and international competitions, Simonetta Cavalli has performed at
Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, Teatro Regio in Parma (she performed Mozart Requiem under conductor R.
Bonucci recently), Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro La Fortuna di Fano, Teatro
Marrucino di Chieti and other Italian Theatres and abroad (in Europe, Canada and U.S.A.).
According to critics, she is particularly successful in Mozart’s repertoire because of her mezzosoprano’s
voice and her musical instinct: in choosing her repertoire, she relied heavily on the composers that suited
her best in the opera house: from Monteverdi up to Mozart and Rossini, namely from Baroque to Italian
and French “belcanto”.
Her knowledge of modern music has led her to sing, in “prima assoluta” (world debut) some operas written by famous contemporary musicians such as: Franco Mannino , Bruno Moretti etc
She had recorded for various labels: Tactus, Westdeutscher Runfunk – Cpo, Foné (thanks to which she has
recorded one of the first CDs in superaudio on the world market) and for the national network (R.A.I.) Her
last work’s released with the magazine “Classic Voice”. The compact disk was made in collaboration with
the ensemble “Collegium Apollineum” for Haendel’s Dixit Dominus, performed in Rome at the Quirinale,
the formal residence of Italy’s President in the Spring of 2009, during the live broadcast on the national radio network Radio3 for the bicentennial of Haendel. Since 2007 she has been cooperating with an
international medical team dealing with studies and research about the importance of human voice, and
she has worked with other musicians to record a CD, “The Human Voice”, in 2012.
