Description
What’s a Park Avenue working mom to do when her troubled son desperately needs a male
role model and her husband is a power workaholic? If she’s like Jamie Whitfield, the gutsy
heroine of Holly Peterson’s astute new comedy of manners among the ill-mannered elite, she
does what every other woman down the block does. She hires herself a manny. Peter Bailey is
cool, competent, and so charmingly down-to-earth, he’s irresistible. And with the political sex
scandal of the decade propelling her career as a news producer into overdrive, and her
increasingly erratic husband locked in his study with suspicious files, Jamie is in serious need of
some grounding.
Peter reminds her of everything she once was, still misses, and underneath all the high-society
glitz, still is. The question is: Will the new manny in her life put the ground back beneath her
feet, or sweep her off them?
Insightful reviews
me (come noi?) le devono accettare, devono semplicemente prenderne atto.
dinosauro).
M: I know, I shouldn't even admit I read it, but I was desperate for something light (ok, that it
was) and didn't realize I was walking into the shopaholic genre so unabashedly - it doesn't even
pay to talk about how bad this book was; it would be like saying, I was reading Cosmo and you
know, it was really shallow .... But I was thinking, Khay, that you and I often debate the merits of
lets say, Olivia Goldsmith or even Maeve Binchy, I mean they're both very different but just in
that some authors offer up a lighter read but it is still clever or original or something - so I don't
think Goldsmith is total trash or Binchy is classic chick lit, and neither kills brain cells, whereas
this book was one big eye roll after another. Aside from all the brand name dropping that only
makes the book seem like SVH for grown ups who love to know what goes on behind closed
mahogany doors along Park Avenue, this book pulled all the typical tricks to make morally
questionable issues suddenly not so questionable. Snort. Well, it served its purpose, I guess,
but I just wonder, is this where we're at now, that it's either weirdo post modern books or total
wastes of ink??
Merredith: I borrowed manny by Holly Peterson from my friend, who had read a couple chapters
then got bored. I originally picked it out from the store. I thought it would be like the nanny
diaries but as a guy. It wasn't. the book is from the rich woman's point of view, with the manny
always telling her how ridiculous everything is, and her denying it. She didn't grow up as rich, so
she thinks she's above it all, but she's obviously not. This could have been interesting, but the
writing is pretty dry. You shouldn't have to work so hard to get through a chick lit genre book. It's
like when you're in college, and the subject could be interesting, but the people who write the
book that your professor assigns you always try really hard to make it boring. That is what the
author did here, probably not on purpose like those textbook writers. I didn't like any of the
characters, and I felt like I was reading a book by gossip girl people (a show my roommate b
makes us have on the tv). It's not a horrible book, it's just not very good. Try it and see what you
think.
Kathy Chung: Reviewed at : Mama Kucing Meow : The Manny by way of Holly
PetersonReviewed on : sixteen February 2011this publication attempts to take on many
issues...a tad too many matters and never adequate time/room to elaborate. consequently the
characters and plot comes out as stiff and missing of depth. There are rather a lot capability
during this novel yet time and again a specific factor was once now not given the opportunity to
develope correctly earlier than leap into one other issue.Sometimes, i feel it's best to not chew
greater than what ones can chew.Yes, there's room for development for this book. If in simple
terms the writer can problematic extra at the characters and provides them extra life.
Rebecca: This publication might have been a lot better! occasionally all of the lovely-dovey in
chicklit novels relatively piss me off and that i want there can be a man and a woman and so
they didn’t continuously need to fall in freakin’ love as the state of affairs is simply like, NO! I
guess one can find the place i'm already going with this one. simply because seriously!
Manny’s are a brand new time period and this booklet might have been so good, yet did the
ladies relatively need to fall for the manny? Agh. The clash of her task used to be additionally
stressful simply because who will get paid like over $100,000/yr for a component time
manufacturer place at a community who by no means has to paintings if ‘something comes
up?’ inform me the place that activity is, simply because i would like it NOW! She will get paid
shitloads and through the publication she is operating on like one story. The conflict, whereas
lame and sort of enjoyable on the related time, had like hardly ever whatever yet lameness to
do with the Manny. i feel the ladies and her husband get a divorce on the end. I don’t
remember. I don’t particularly care that a lot either. If this booklet goes to be just like the Nanny
Diaries, i will stay with that. That ebook used to be lame too and the motion picture made similar
to no money. reliable for them.Grade: C
