III DOMENICA DI AVVENTO/ A
DOMANDIAMO A GESÙ: SEI TU COLUI CHE DEVE VENIRE?
LA liturgia di oggi ci chiama ad attendere
con fede e gioia la venuta del Signore. Il
profeta invita il deserto a rallegrarsi e la
steppa a fiorire (I Lettura). Giovanni
Battista è il messagero inviato per
preparare la strada al Signore che viene
(Vangelo). Entrambi fanno il loro annuncio
profetico da una posizione difficile: Isaia
annuncia la liberazione e il ritorno al
popolo mentre vive la deportaziane
dell’esilio; il Battista si rivolge a Gesù
dalla prigione rivelando con sincerità
cristallina I pensieri che abitano le
profondità della sua anima.
Dove risiede la speranza che ispira Isaia e
Giovanni? I profeti si caratterizzano per la
costanza e la sopportazione iniziale del
salmo in una domanda: “Il Signore rimane
Fedele per sempre?”. La storia dà ragione
al salmista: il popolo poté rientrare nel suo
paese e Gesù era il messia che doveva
venire. Isaia e Giovanni non fallirono, né
caddero nel vuoto le loro profezie. Tutti
noi, siamo chiamati a essere annunciatori di
speranza nelle schiavitù della nostra società e nell’incertezza della nostra fede. Fr. Gianfranco Tinello, ofmcap

‘TIS THE SEASON for runaway anticipation. Expending seemingly unlimited time and energy on preparing for the big day, it’s easy to lose
sight of what Christmas is all about. Then, when it’s come and gone, we are left to wonder what all the bustling, buying and baking were
for. What a letdown!
That empty, disquieting feeling must have plagued John the Baptist as he languished in Herod’s prison awaiting his execution. The Baptist
sent word by the disciples to Jesus, asking him, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?”
John the Baptist had been sent to prepare the way for Jesus, the Saviour. John anticipated the coming of a messiah and he was confident
that Jesus was that messiah. So, why the lingering doubts? Jesus didn’t really fit with John’s preconceived notion of a messiah who would
come breathing fire and brimstone and take the unsuspecting and unrepentant world by storm.
Jesus sent a return message: “The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised,
and the poor have good news brought to them.” Certainly, not fire and brimstone – rather a genuine Christmas story of love and
salvation. It’s time that we too shifted our focus from unrealistic expectation to embrace the promise of Jesus as the true meaning of

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to our
Pastor, Father George, and to his family in India
on the passing away of his beloved mother,
Aleykutty, on December 8, 2016. We offer our
prayers for the eternal repose of her soul, for
God to welcome her into His eternal happiness,
and for the safe journey home of Father George
last Friday to pay his last respects and love for
his late mother. Funeral is set on Monday,
December 12.

IL CORSO DI CATECHISMO PER IL 2017
LE ISCRIZIONI APERTE
Adesso sono aperte le registrazioni per il nostro pre-scuola
delle classi di preparazione per La Prima Comunione e
Cresima per il 2017. Le classi cominceranno il 15 gennaio,
2017.
Il nostro programma è considerato tra i migliori per la
preparazione dei nostri bambini a questi preziosi sacramenti
e incoraggiamo tutti i genitori di registrare i loro figli per la
loro Prima Comunione e Cresima. Inoltre la Parrocchia
offre pre-scuola classi di catechismo per bambini dell'età tra
i 4-6 anni. Per registrare i vostri bambini chiamate l'ufficio
della parrocchia al (780)422-8304.

2017 CATECHISM CLASSES
Registration Open
Registration is ongoing for our Pre-school, First
Communion and Confirmation preparation
classes for 2017. Classes will start on January 15,
2017.
We have a very good reputation for preparing our
children for these precious sacraments, and we
encourage all parents with children wishing to receive
their First Holy Communion and Confirmation to
register. The parish is also offering pre-school
catechism classes for children between the ages of 4-6
years.
Please register your children by calling the parish
office at (780) 422-8304. Registration forms may be
picked up at the Parish Office. They may also be

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Your Knights of Columbus are always open to our Parish
brothers joining our little group. We are devoted to doing
little things that help make our community a little better.
The more members we have the more good things we will
be able to do for our Parish and for our community. Time
commitment to the Knights is relatively minimal, and
totally up to you. We meet once a month, usually on
Tuesday evening for a short hello. Our plans involve things
like helping out at the Marian Centre, donating funds to
children's causes, fund-raising socials and making ourselves
available for church activities. It really is a nice bit of
service. Please call Tony at 780-297-4479 if you would
like to find out more about us. May all our parishioners
have a safe and wonderful week! Our Father George is the
Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Goretti Council leader.
As our spiritual leader, we share in Father's grief in losing
his mother. Sincere condolences and prayers for him and
his family.

The Giving Tree 2016
It is time once more for the collection of Christmas
gifts for the needy children of our area.
Please pick up a tag with the age and gender of the
child. Then, purchase an appropriate gift (toys or
other fun gifts).
DO NOT wrap the gift. Simply attach the
identifying tag to the gift and place it under the
Christmas tree at the back of the Church.
Gifts must be brought in no later than Sunday, 18
December 2016.Thank you for your cooperation
and generosity.

Ancora una volta è ora di cominciare la
raccolta dei doni natalizi per i bambini
bisognosi della nostra zona.
Vi incoraggiamo a prendere un cartellino che vi
da l’età e il sesso del bambino. Poi comprate
un regalo appropriato (un giocattolo o qualche
altra cosa che sia divertente).
NON confezionate il regalo. Attaccate il
cartellino al regalo e depositatelo sotto l’albero
di Natale che si trova all’entrata della chiesa.
I regali devono essere portati non più tardi di
domenica, 18 dicembre, 2016.
