International Early Warning Programme
(IEWP)
5 focuses for action (as defined during EWC-II):
1. Integration of early warning into relevant development
policies and programmes;
2. Improvement of data collection, facilitating access to
relevant data and forecasting;
3. Enhancement of early warning capacities;
4. Development of people-centred warning systems;
5. Sustain the early warning dialogue in the future
IEWP Global Coordination Mechanism
1. Integrated planning among agencies for
development of end-to-end national and regional
EWS projects;
2. Global capacity assessment and reporting;
3. Improved knowledge sharing;
4. Advocacy and awareness campaigns on benefits of
EWS targeted at ministerial level and promotion of
EWS as a climate change adaptation tool;
5. Coordinated resource mobilization.
Link with ISDR System
• The IEWP will coordinate with ISDR mechanisms:
– Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR)
– Regional platforms and consultation processes
• Co-chairing (2 agencies members of the ISDR
System) will rotate with GPDRR
• ISDR and PPEW Secretariats will facilitate:
– face-to-face and virtual meetings
– preparation of documentation
– advocacy and promotional activities
– fund raising
