Questionnaire Repository Project

Questionnaire repository project

To create a web-based repository containing questions and question modules from censuses and surveys that have been used to collect data on migration, the characteristics of migrant populations, and migration-related topics, including remittances.

Purposes of the project

A repository to facilitate the sharing of

information on survey questions that have been used by different institutions and countries

• Avoiding duplication of work - allowing institutions to benefit from developments made elsewhere • Promoting use of common variables, concepts and definitions – resulting in more comparable statistics

Categories of migration-related questions

Identifying migration-related groups and sub-

groups in the population

• Country of birth, citizenship • Parents’ country of birth, length of residence in destination country...

Proving specific migration-relevant information

on the characteristics of respondents

• Language ability, discrimination, barriers to labour market access...

Further work on migration questions

Further work

• Core variables on migration for all surveys?

• Harmonised recommended variables for less frequent use or for inclusion in migrant modules?
