Reading versus Searching
• There is a big difference between what we
read and what we search.
• We read:
– a single document;
– all the details.
• It doesn’t matter what terms the authors used.
We have the document!
• We search:
– Millions of documents.
• We don’t know what terms the authors used.
(We have to add a lot of terms to cover all the variations)

醫學文獻資料庫，其中包含生醫領域著名的
4,800多種期刊*
• 資料包含書目、摘要以及索引資訊
• 資料每周4次更新超過14,000筆

*共40多種語言期刊,目前所有收錄的文獻中有52%發表於美國; 89%以英語發表; 76%有英語
的文獻摘要,還有1年約收錄新增文獻450,000 筆，資料更新至2008年10月13日止
