NAWBO Priorities
Immediate, 2012 & Beyond
Expanding NAWBO’s influence and visibility
NAWBO, the premier, go-to source of
information and influence on topics and issues
relevant to women-owned businesses.
NAWBO®
A start-up with a brand?
Diagnosing the Business Situation
“Get a seat at the table or build your own table, and
make sure to include other women at that table.”
—Susan Hager
• Under Helen, NAWBO was successfully moved from
an outsourced association management firm to
become a fully managed organization poised for
tremendous growth.
• Currently we are building our presence back in DC by
raising our visibility, identifying new funding and
having our headquarters based in DC.
The Opportunity
• To harness the nation’s wide-ranging community of
entrepreneurial women into an ever-more-influential voice
and increasingly dynamic leadership roles.
• NAWBO is poised to significantly expand its influence and
increase its ability to serve the rapidly growing women’s
business community.
2012 Strategy/Priorities
(1) Increase organizational productivity.
(2) Establish a fundraising strategy and begin executing on it
to support strategic priorities. Identify new channels of
revenue and cultivate new funding sources.
(3) Re-engage NAWBO’s involvement and influence in the
public policy sphere—reactivate PAC and roll out highimpact advocacy and public policy engagement platform.
Priorities continued…
(4) Continuously improve all levels of operational systems.
(5) Identify and recruit seasoned board members that are
aligned with NAWBO’s long-term vision.
(6) Strengthen the National/Chapter business model.
(7) Financial results management—continuously make
decisions based on highest ROI through all levels of the
organization.
Top Top Priorities
(1) Raise Visibility/Awareness
(2) Membership Development
(3) Grow Revenues
Raise Visibility/Awareness
Take positions on policy issues such as:
• Identify key issues that NAWBO can support.
• Use social media such as Facebook and Twitter to build
support for our issues.
– we are currently interviewing public policy firms to
support this effort.
• Join coalitions and develop partners that support issues that
directly affect our members. Example: U.S. Chamber Small
Business Summit
Raise Visibility/Awareness
• Continue to develop research and data regarding women
entrepreneurs and business owners that advocate for our
members. Example: American College
• Place Op-ed’s of NAWBO members in regional papers on
issues of importance.
• Identify media opportunities to raise the profile of NAWBO
members in their communities.
Membership Development
• Engage on a regular basis with President’s Assembly
and chapters. Example: national participation in monthly
webinars
• Identify ways to provide support and ongoing interaction
with National and chapters.
• Address organization issues with tools such as healthy
chapter surveys.
• Identify new audiences to increase membership through
partnerships, using social media and leveraging local
chapters role in the community. Includes younger
women, women of color and international womenowned businesses.
Grow Revenues
• Solidify current corporate partners engagement
• Identify new corporate partners
• Identify new channels of revenue (American College,
Direct Incorporation)
• Develop an Affinity Program
• Cultivate new funding sources (Foundations)
• Review membership categories and create potential
new categories
• Utilize NAWBO Institute and programs to increase
revenue. Example: Accelerated Growth Series/Capacity
