HCSCC Charter
1. ACCESS – Right to access
health and community services
• protect children from physical, sexual, emotional and psychological abuse and neglect.
• implement the principles contained within the Information Sharing Guidelines (ISG).
• recognise that children have unique vulnerabilities & that some children are more vulnerable than others.
2. SAFETY – Right to be safe
and free from abuse
• ensure effective risk management principles and practices are developed and maintained.
• ensure that the most suitable and appropriate staff/volunteers are engaged to work with and provide services
to children and young people.
• ensure that all relevant staff/volunteers develop and maintain the necessary skills and understanding to
promote child safe environments.
• ensure all relevant staff/volunteers are aware of their obligations under the Children’s Protection Act 1993
3. QUALITY – Right to quality
service
• be a child safe and child friendly organisation, where children and young people feel respected, valued and
are encouraged to reach their full potential.
• children and young people are unique users of health services.
• respect & take into consideration the cultural beliefs/practices of children, young people & their parents/carers.
4. RESPECT – Right to be
treated with respect
• inform children and young people of their rights
• provide appropriate information and ensure effective age-appropriate communications with children and
young people
5. INFORMATION – Right to be
informed
• involve children & young people in individual health care & service development planning where relevant.
• encourage children & young people to express their views & make suggestions on matters that affect them.
• work in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers to build strength and resilience, and
reduce risk factors and vulnerabilities.
6. PARTICIPATION – Right to
actively participate
• inform and seek consent from the child or young person, and the parent/guardian before recording or
photographing a child or young person
7. PRIVACY – Right to privacy
and confidentiality
• inform children and young people how to access complaints procedures.
8. COMMENT – Right to
comment and / or complain
