Ensure head is secure
Remove burrs from head
Remove rust with wire wheel or brush
Apply a thin coat of WD40 to any non painted
metal surfaces
Can paint head black to prevent rusting
Check shaft for splinters, discolorations, and
cracks
Clean with mild soap and water
Dry thoroughly
Safety
• Wear appropriate PPE
– Minimum of helmet, gloves, and eye
protection
• Full turnouts and SCBA are required when
utilizing the tool in an IDLH atmosphere or
when making entry into a possible IDLH
atmosphere
• Check surroundings prior to using tool
• Ensure the tool is the right tool for the job
