Objectives

Specifications
• Striking tool
• Wood or fiberglass
shaft
– Length - 36”
• Steel head
– 10 or 12 lb head
Use
• Forcible entry
– Used with halligan as
commercial irons
• Breaking & breaching
Maintenance
• Head
– Ensure head is secured to
handle
– File any burrs
– Apply a thin coat of WD40 to any
non painted metal surfaces
– may paint black to prevent
rusting
• Handle
– Check for cracks and splinters
– Sand and coat with boiled
linseed oil
– Wash fiberglass handles with
mild soap and water
Safety
• Wear appropriate PPE
– Minimum of helmet, gloves, and eye
protection
• Full turnouts and SCBA are required when
utilizing tool in an IDLH atmosphere or
making entry into a possible IDLH
atmosphere
• Check surroundings prior to using tool
• Ensure the tool is the right tool for the job
