families since scientists continue to learn
more about nutrients and as a result, there
are many healthful products that are safe to
eat. Also, food science plays a role in
processing and preserving foods to have
quick meals.
Environmental protection goes hand in hand with
agricultural improvement. Ex. Breeding hardier
plants reduces the need for chemical fertilizers
and pesticides. Research continues into energyand cost-saving technologies for processing,
storing, and transporting foods.

methods that fit local needs and conditions. Ex.
A farmer might graze dairy cows on land that
does not support crops.

