LETTURE QUARESIMALI ANNO A
perduta' sulle sue spalle. Si basa sulle
rappresentazioni del Buon Pastore delle
prime comunita’ cristiane. Cristo porta
Quaresima? Forse posso:





sharepacks. Portate un salvadanaio a casa! E’
l’opportunita’ di rispondere al fioretto
quaresimale dell'elemosina. Questo appello
quaresimale annuale finanzia il continuo lavoro di
Caritas Australia in molte parti del mondo.
PROJECT COMPASSION: PRIMA SETTIMANA
senza cibo a sufficienza.
nella sala comunitaria a Our Lady’s.
inizierà fino a mercoledì 3 marzo.
VIA CRUCIS
Reciteremo la Via Crucis i martedì di
Quaresima presso Our Lady’s dopo la messa
in Our Lady’s per celebrare l'inizio dell'anno scolastico.
messa. Anche I parrocchiani sono calorosamente invitati a
partecipare!
LOTTERIA DI PASQUA
I biglietti della lotteria di Pasqua
parrocchiale sono in vendita presso Our
Lady’s questo weekend e il prossimo.
Saranno disponibili presso St Ambrose’s il 28 febbraio e il
6 marzo. Una busta con 4 biglietti costa $2. I premi sono
due cesti di Pasqua.
TURNI DISPONIBILI OGGI
disponibili oggi. Un sincero grazie a tutti coloro che
generosamente e hanno attivamente partecipato alla vita
liturgica della parrocchia attraverso questi ministeri. I
senza. Questo problema sarà rettificato con il
prossimo ordine.
PREGHIERA PARROCCHIALE PER FEBBRAIO
Preghiamo affinche’ durante questo anno della
misericordia possiamo approfondire il nostro
apprezzamento della nostra comune natura umana.
Esortiamoci a rispondere con compassione.

FAITH DEVELOPMENT AND ADMIN
Those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High
and abide in the shade of the Almighty
say to the Lord: ‘My refuge,
my stronghold, my God in whom I trust!’
Upon you no evil shall fall,
no plague approach where you dwell.
For you has God commanded angels,
to keep you in all your ways.
They shall bear you upon their hands
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
On the lion and the viper you will tread
and trample the young lion and the dragon.
His love he set on me, so I will rescue him;
protect him for he knows my name.
When he calls I shall answer: ‘I am with you.’
I will save him in distress and give him glory.

THE DESERT AND CONVERSION
Throughout human history, and especially within the
great monotheistic traditions, religious impulses of
great power have sprung from the desert. Here the
issues of good and evil are basic and clear. With
comforts, supports and delusions stripped away,
human beings must confront the conflict that is
continually engaged in the depths of their being,
determining motivations, choices and action.
Lent is a time when we are invited
to enter with Jesus into the desert:
to share both his conflict and his
victory, to feel something of our
own weakness and temptations, to
know the depth of our reliance on
God’s grace. Only so can genuine
conversion occur.
LENTEN READINGS FROM YEAR A
With our Catechumens now in the final stages of
preparation for their baptism and reception into the
Catholic Church this Easter, we will be using the
readings from Year A of the lectionary during the
Sundays of Lent. These readings are designed to
accompany the Catechumens during these
important weeks of preparation.
OUR THEME FOR LENT
Our overriding theme for Lent is Mercy. This week
we focus on ‘Choosing Mercy’ as we contemplate
Jesus in the wilderness making important choices for
his life. He did not choose power and wealth but
instead chose to place his perfect trust in God’s
merciful providence and care.
BANNER FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY
In the sanctuary is a banner displaying
the international logo for the Year of
Mercy. It is an image of Christ carrying
the ‘lost soul’ upon his shoulders. It is
based on early Christian images of the
Good Shepherd. Christ carries humanity
out of the night of darkness toward the
divine light.
LENT: A TIME FOR PRAYER
During Lent we are called to allow extra time for
prayer, to listen for God’s presence in our lives.
What extra time can I spend in prayer during these
days of Lent? Perhaps I can:



Come to weekday Mass
Spend some time in prayer at home
Come to the Stations of the Cross—on
Tuesdays or Fridays


Come to the Lenten Prayer at the Marists on
Thursday evenings
Join a Lenten Reflection Group
LENT: A TIME FOR FASTING
This aspect of Lent invites us, through some form of
fasting and self denial, to deepen our dependence on
God – to become less self-centred and more othercentred.
LENT: A TIME FOR ALMSGIVING
On the church table is this year’s Project
Compassion material, with the boxes and
sharepacks. Please take a box home! This
offers a real way to respond to the Lenten
call to almsgiving. This annual Lenten
Appeal funds the continuing work of
Caritas Australia in many parts of the
world.
PROJECT COMPASSION: WEEK 1
Like many families in her remote
village in Malawi, Doney and her family
have often gone months without
enough to eat. But with the support of Caritas
Australia and local partner CADECOM, the people of
Doney’s community have learned to harness their
strengths. Today they are building new livelihoods,
improving health and growing literacy to create
paths toward a better future.
LENTEN REFLECTION GROUPS
1.
There is an Italian reflection group every
Tuesday of Lent at 10.30am in St Ambrose’s
Parish House. Sr Marjetka leads this group.
2.
3.
A second Italian reflection group led by Sr
Marjetka is held at 9.45am on the
Thursdays of Lent in the Community Room
at Our Lady’s.
The English-speaking group, led by Sr Diane,
will not begin until Wednesday 3 March.
REFLECTIVE LENTEN PRAYER
On the Thursday evenings of Lent, there
is an opportunity for some quiet,
reflective prayer at the Marist Brothers’
chapel from 7.45 – 8.30pm at 106
Holden Street, North Fitzroy. This is
gently led by Br Michael Herry and
provides an opportunity for people to
sit quietly with the Gospel for the following Sunday.
There is a hand-out guide for reflection. All are
welcome!
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
On the Tuesdays of Lent at Our
Lady’s after the 9.15 Mass, and on
the Fridays of Lent at St
Ambrose’s after the 10.00 Mass there will be the
Stations of the Cross in the church.
MELBOURNE CATHOLIC
There are a limited number of free copies of the
Archdiocese’s new publication ‘Melbourne Catholic’.
This takes the place of ‘Kairos’. For those who wish
to take out an annual subscription, there is an
information letter and envelope with the magazine.
THE PARISH VOICE – STILL AVAILABLE!
If you didn’t get a copy of The Parish Voice last week,
there are still some copies available. Feel free to take
a copy home today! This is our Parish magazine that
is published three times a year. Read about recent
parish happenings and also get to know the stories
of some of our parishioners.
MEDIA RELEASE
Archbishop Denis Hart has thrown his support
behind Premier Daniel Andrews to allow 267 asylum
seekers to stay in Australia. The Media Release is on
the noticeboard.
MASS FOR THE BEGINNING
OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
At 9.15am this Tuesday 16
February there will be a Mass at
Our Lady’s Church to celebrate the
beginning of the school year. All
students and teachers will attend this Mass. And
parishioners are warmly invited to attend as well!
MEETING REMINDER
The Parish Leadership Team meets this
Wednesday 17 February at 7.00pm in Our Lady’s
Parish House.
WE ARE SORRY
There has been a mix-up with the order of
La Messa Festiva and we are only receiving
half the number of copies needed. We
apologise to all Italian parishioners who are
missing out on a copy. This problem will be
rectified with the next order.
RITE OF ELECTION TODAY
An important event for our RCIA Catechumens and
sponsors will be the Rite of Election at St Patrick’s
Cathedral at 2.30pm this afternoon. Parishioners
are also welcome to attend. At this event all
Catechumens and sponsors are presented to the
Archbishop and their names are enrolled in the
Book of the Elect.
PARISH EASTER RAFFLE
Tickets are on sale in the Parish Easter
Raffle. They are available at Our Lady’s
this weekend and next weekend. On
the following weekends (28 February,
6 March) they will be available at St
Ambrose’s. Tickets are $2 for an envelope of 4
tickets. The prizes are two Easter hampers.
CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD SLAVERY
The International Labour Rights Forum estimates
that there are 1.5 million children working in the
cocoa sector in West Aftica. To buy slavery-free
Easter chocolate this year, look for Fairtrade,
Rainforest Alliance or UTZ.
BAPTISM TEA
This Thursday evening 18 February at 6.30pm there
will be a meal and information session in St
Ambrose’s Community Centre for the parents
whose children will be baptised over the coming
weeks.
FACELIFT FOR SYDNEY ROAD
Throughout February, Sydney
Road is being cleaned of posters,
stickers and graffiti. If you would
like to adopt a small section of
Sydney Rd, or even a lamp-post, nominate yourself
as a Clean-up Champion. Moreland City Council will
supply graffiti kits. Phone 9380 2005.
ROSTERS AVAILABLE TODAY
The new rosters are all available today. A sincere
thanks to all who have generously volunteered to
actively participate in the liturgical life of the parish
through these ministries. The rosters will run until
the end of August. There will then be an opportunity
for others to join the new rosters beginning in
September.
PARISH PRAYER FOR FEBRUARY
We pray that during this Year of Mercy we may
deepen our appreciation of our shared humanity.
May we be compelled to respond with compassion.
