FAITH DEVELOPMENT AND ADMIN
Tricia Murray
I thank you, Lord, with all my heart,
you have heard the words of my mouth.
Before the angels I will bless you.
I will adore before your holy temple.
I thank you for your faithfulness and love
which excel all we ever knew of you.
On the day I called, you answered;
you increased the strength of my soul.
All earth’s kings shall thank you
when they hear the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of the Lord’s ways;
‘How great is the glory of the Lord!’
You stretch out your hand and save me,
your hand will do all things for me.
Your love, O Lord, is eternal,
discard not the work of your hands.

BEING CALLED
Today’s first reading and
gospel are call narratives.
Isaiah is called in order to be
sent; the fishermen are
called in order to gather
others to Jesus. So it is with
us. We are called to be sent
out to the world. This call
comes to us in the ordinariness of life. It will
usually come to us as we wash our nets or our
dishes, as we teach or raise children, as we
prepare a brief for trial or examine a patient; as
we repair cars or work at the computer. The call
of God comes to us in the ordinariness of life.
We are called to proclaim the message of the
resurrection by any and every means possible.
Some, like Isaiah and the disciples of Jesus, will
witness in open and dramatic ways. They will
teach and preach; they will nurse the sick and care
for the elderly. Others will witness in less
conspicuous ways. They will insist on fair practices
in their own workplaces; they will weed out
expressions of prejudice and violence so that a
new and just world can be fashioned for
themselves and for their children. Called in the
ordinariness of their lives, they will witness to the
death and resurrection in that very ordinariness,
thus transforming everything into
extraordinariness.

LENTEN INFORMATION

regarding the Lenten season, and the Lenten
regulations that are part of the season.
PROJECT COMPASSION
Project Compassion boxes will be
available next Sunday in the Gathering
Space. This annual Lenten Appeal funds
the continuing work of Caritas Australia
in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America
and Australian Indigenous communities.
Project Compassion is an opportunity to share
what we have with those who have less.
LENTEN REFLECTION GROUPS
1.
The first Italian reflection group for Lent
begins on Tuesday this week (and each
Tuesday of Lent). It will be held at 10.30am
in St Ambrose’s Parish House. Sr Marjetka
will lead this group.
2.
The second Italian reflection group led by Sr
Marjetka will be held at 9.45am on
Thursday of this week in the Community
Room at Our Lady’s.
3.
The English-speaking group, led by Sr Diane,
will not begin until Wednesday 3 March.
(Sr Diane is on holidays.) This will take place
at St Ambrose’s Parish house after the
10.00am Communion Service.
WELCOME SR MARJETKA!
At our Masses this weekend we will meet Sr
Marjetka. On Tuesday she will officially take up
the role of Pastoral Associate in the parish. Her
main ministry will be to the Italian-speaking
parishioners. Sr Marjetka is keen to visit Italian
parishioners in their homes.
FIRST SUNDAY CUPPA
All are warmly invited to come across
to St Ambrose’s Community Centre
after the 10.30am Mass today to enjoy a cuppa,
with biscuits and cakes, and conversation
together, and also to meet Sr Marjetka!
THE PARISH VOICE – OUT TODAY!
Take home your copy of The Parish
Voice today! This is our Parish
magazine that is published three
times a year. Read about recent
parish happenings and also get to know the stories
of some of our parishioners. Take a copy for
yourself and one for a friend!
BANNER FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY
In the sanctuary is a banner displaying
the logo for the Year of Mercy. There
is an explanation for this logo in the
latest edition of The Parish Voice. It is an
image of Christ carrying the ‘lost soul’
upon his shoulders. It is based on early
Christian images of the Good
Shepherd. Christ carries humanity out of the night
of darkness toward the divine light.
REFLECTIVE LENTEN PRAYER
On the Thursday
evenings of Lent,
there will be the
opportunity for
some quiet,
reflective prayer at the Marist Brothers’ chapel
from 7.45 – 8.30pm at 106 Holden Street, North
Fitzroy. This will be gently led by Br Michael
Herry. It will provide an opportunity for people to
sit quietly with the Gospel for the following
Sunday. There may be some limited sharing,
perhaps a hymn or a psalm together, and a handout guide for reflection. All are welcome!
ROSTER SIGN-UP SHEETS—LAST CHANCE!
There are roster sign-up sheets in the Gathering
Space for new volunteers who wish to be:

Lectors / Commentators

Special Ministers of the Eucharist

please indicate if you wish to come
off the roster. The new rosters for
2016 will be available before the
end of February.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY TODAY
The Children’s Liturgy of the
Word resumes today. This gives
our parish children the
opportunity to hear and
understand the Gospel at their
own level. All children are
welcome to attend. If you wish to volunteer as a
leader of Children’s Liturgy, please sign the roster
in the Gathering Space. Thanks to all volunteers!
