La compétition
Depuis sa première édition en 2009, le Festival International du Film Policier de Beaune propose
chaque année une compétition de films noirs venus de tous horizons et présente une cartographie
contemporaine du polar en révélant quelques-uns de ses succès de demain. IN ORDER OF
DISAPPEARANCE de Hans Petter Moland, ’71 de Yann Demange et LES POINGS CONTRE LES MURS de
David Mackenzie en 2014, NORTHWEST de Michael Noer, NEW WORLD de Park Hoon-jung et
HIJACKING de Tobias Lindholm en 2013, MARGIN CALL de J. C. Chandor, SHADOW DANCER de James
Marsh, et KILL LIST de Ben Wheatley en 2012, BULLHEAD de Michaël R. Roskam, L’AFFAIRE RACHEL
SINGER de John Madden ou ANIMAL KINGDOM de David Michôd en 2011, DANS SES YEUX de Juan
José Campanella en 2010, DANS LA BRUME ÉLECTRIQUE de Bertrand Tavernier en 2009, tous ces
films ont été découverts en avant-première à Beaune et récompensés par les professionnels du
cinéma, de la police ou de la presse qui auront à nouveau cette année l’ambitieuse mission de
récompenser un film parmi les longs métrages sélectionnés en Compétition.
Since it was created in 2009, the Beaune International Thriller Film Festival each year offers a
competition of films noirs from all around the world, mapping the contemporary thriller and
revealing some of the hits of tomorrow. IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE by Hans Petter Moland, ’71
by Yann Demange and STARRED UP by David Mackenzie in 2014, NORTHWEST by Michael Noer, NEW
WORLD by Park Hoon-jung and HIJACKING by Tobias Lindholm in 2013; MARGIN CALL by J. C.
Chandor, SHADOW DANCER by James Marsh, and KILL LIST by Ben Wheatley in 2012; BULLHEAD by
Michaël R. Roskam, THE DEBT by John Madden, and ANIMAL KINGDOM by David Michôd in 2011;
THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES by Juan José Campanella in 2010; IN THE ELECTRIC MIST by Bertrand
Tavernier in 2009; all these films were premiered in Beaune and won awards conferred by the
industry, the police or the press, who will once again this year take on the ambitious mission of
picking their favorites from the features selected in Competition.

Déterminé à faire tomber l'un des plus importants syndicats du crime du pays, Hannes, l'ambitieux
chef du département des Affaires intérieures de la police de Reykjavik, décide d'ouvrir une enquête
sur l’un de ses lieutenants qu’un ex-baron du crime, aujourd’hui derrière les barreaux, a dénoncé
comme étant particulièrement corrompu. Il met sur l’affaire une ancienne de la brigade des Stups à
qui il demande de surveiller, sous couverture, les faits et gestes de son collègue. Pensant pouvoir
faire ainsi coup double en confondant le policier et en arrêtant l’actuel chef du crime organisé,
Hannes s’engage alors sur une voie des plus dangereuses…
In order to take down a major criminal organization, the ambitious Head of the Internal Affairs unit of
the Reykjavik P.D. decides to investigate a corrupt police lieutenant. Tipped off about the lieutenant’s
criminal dealings by a former crime kingpin, now imprisoned, he places a female former narc officer
undercover to spy on him. These actions set him off on a dangerous path as he aims to catch both the
lieutenant and the drug Lord.

L’officier de police Michael Logan est doté d’une personnalité complexe où se mélangent alcoolisme
et corruption. L’univers sinistre dans lequel il évolue est en pleine mutation, en raison de l’arrivée
massive à Londres de gangsters albanais sans scrupules qui menacent de bouleverser la scène locale
du crime. Jusqu’ici son instinct lui a toujours donné une longueur d’avance sur les autres. Mais son
comportement de plus en plus autodestructeur et la brutalité des nouveaux chefs de gangs vont peu
à peu entraîner Michael vers le bas d’une dangereuse spirale de peurs et de doutes…
Michael Logan is a complex mix of high-functioning addict and corrupt Police officer. But his dark
world is evolving as a recent influx of ruthless Albanian gangsters is threatening to change London’s
criminal landscape. So far, his instinct had always kept him one step ahead of everybody else. His selfdestructive behavior and the brutality of new gang leaders eventually start leading him down a
slippery slope where fear and doubts are scattered along the way…

Né aux Pays-Bas d’un père marocain et d’une mère hollandaise, et fraîchement diplômé de l’école de
Police, Samir souhaite faire bonne impression auprès de ses supérieurs. En acceptant d’infiltrer une
famille marocaine mêlée au trafic de drogue, il tient là l’occasion de faire ses preuves. Accueilli et
rapidement accepté par le clan, Samir y trouve ce qui lui a finalement toujours manqué : la sensation
d’appartenir à une vraie famille. Le policier se sent alors déchiré entre cette nouvelle famille plus
vertueuse qu’il aurait pu penser, et ses confrères de la police, moins irréprochables qu’il aurait pu lui
sembler.
Samir was born in Holland as son of a Moroccan father and a Dutch mother. After graduating from
the Police Academy, he now gravely desires appreciation from his police force. By infiltrating a
Moroccan drugs family he can prove himself. While he becomes part of this family, Samir is
confronted with long suppressed feelings: he feels at home. He finds himself in a moral dilemma as
the family turns out to be not as bad as he thought, while the police force is not always as upright as
it seems.

Franck, 52 ans, est gardien de nuit dans un centre commercial de banlieue. Il y a dix ans, il était
ouvrier spécialisé et délégué syndical, toujours sur le pont, toujours prêt au combat. Aujourd’hui, il
est le spectateur résigné de sa vie, et il s’ennuie. Un soir tard, il voit un 4×4 qui rôde sur le parking, et
il sent que quelque chose se prépare. La curiosité le sort de son indifférence... Il décide d’intervenir.
Une occasion pour lui d’enfin reprendre sa vie en main…
Franck works as a night watchman in a shopping mall in the slum outskirts of Paris. He used to be a
skilled worker and union delegate, always ready to fight for his fellow workers. Ten years have passed
since and he is now alone with no prospect for change. One night, he notices a black SUV prowling
around the mall’s parking lot. His suspicions turn into reality: a gang is planning a holdup and Franck
is the only one to know about it. He wants to turn this situation into an opportunity for him and his
friends to fulfill his destiny. A way for him to become a working-class hero again…

Deux flics que tout oppose, dans l'Espagne post-franquiste des années 1980, sont envoyés dans une
petite ville d'Andalousie pour enquêter sur l'assassinat sauvage de deux adolescentes pendant les
fêtes locales. Au coeur des marécages de cette région encore ancrée dans le passé, parfois jusqu'à
l'absurde et où règne la loi du silence, ils vont devoir surmonter leurs différences pour démasquer le
tueur.
The Spanish deep South, 1980. A series of brutal murders of adolescent girls in a remote and
forgotten town bring together two disparate characters - both detectives in the homicide division - to
investigate the cases. With deep divisions in their ideology, detectives Juan and Pedro must put aside
their differences if they are to successfully hunt down a killer who for years has terrorized a
community in the shadow of a general disregard for women rooted in a misogynistic past.

Champion de tir au fusil, Vincent mène une vie tranquille entre sa femme et sa fille. Jusqu’au jour où
des problèmes d’argent menacent l’équilibre de sa famille et l’obligent à remettre en cause ses
projets. Quand, au stand de tir, il rencontre Renaud, un personnage aussi séduisant qu'énigmatique
qui lui propose alors un contrat un peu particulier, Vincent met le doigt dans un engrenage des plus
dangereux…
Vincent, an air rifle champion, sees his quiet life with his wife and daughter shattered when money
issues threaten to jeopardize his projects. One day at a shooting range, he meets Renaud. The
charming and mysterious man entices Vincent to take a rather peculiar contract that leads him into a
dangerous path.

Andreas et Simon sont policiers et amis mais vivent des vies bien différentes. Alors qu'Andreas vit
une vie simple avec sa femme et son fils, Simon, qui vient de divorcer, passe la plus grande partie de
son temps au bar du coin. Mais tout va changer quand le duo va être appelé pour une dispute entre
un couple de junkies. Andreas trouve dans l'appartement le bébé du couple et se retrouve face à un
dilemme...
Andreas and Simon are policemen and friends but lead very different lives. Whereas Andreas lives a
simple life with his wife and son, newly divorced Simon spends most of his time in the local bar. But
everything changes when the men are called out to a domestic disturbance involving a couple of
junkies. Andreas finds a baby in the couple’s apartment and is faced with a dilemma...

Berlin, à la sortie d’une boîte de nuit. Victoria, une jeune Madrilène, fait la rencontre de Sonne et de
ses amis. Les quatre hommes se sont attirés des ennuis et ils demandent à Victoria de les
accompagner dans leur virée nocturne en leur servant de chauffeur. Mais la folle aventure tourne
rapidement au cauchemar. À l’aube, Victoria et Sonne comprennent qu’ils n’ont maintenant plus rien
à perdre...
Victoria, a young woman from Madrid, meets four young Berlin guys outside a club. Sonne and his
gang have got themselves into hot water and Victoria ends up as their driver. But what starts as a
big, crazy adventure quickly turns into a nightmare. At the crack of dawn, Victoria and Sonne
suddenly realize: it’s all or nothing…
