Interactive course or workshop with stand-up lectures
delivered to a student group by an instructor.
Technical ILTs usually include practical (lab) sessions.
vILT: virtual Instructor-Led Training
Electronic and distance learning component consisting
of an interactive course delivered to students by a
remote instructor. Students access the vILT via the
internet or their intranet and can be geographically
dispersed. Some vILTs include practical sessions with
connection to a remote lab. vILTs are sometimes
recorded and then offered for repeated viewing.
WBT: Web-Based Training
Electronic and distance learning component available
for viewing using a web browser. Some WBTs can be
downloaded and be run offline as Computer-Based
Training (CBT).
Prometric or IBT
Hitachi Data Systems Academy has moved from using 2 different course codes—one for ILT trainings and
the other vILT trainings—to a single course code for both delivery methods. This change affects any course
that is delivered via both methods in the Learning Center. Searching using the old vILT course code will
surface the new single-course code, and virtual offerings can be identified by location. If you have any

Accreditation
This level of testing uses low-stakes exams typically used in 2 contexts:
• Validation of broad and general expertise on subjects that evolve rapidly and for which a flexible assessment
mechanism with short development cycles is needed.
• Validation of basic and fundamentals technical knowledge acquired academically, usually through course
attendance, and for which entry-level testing is appropriate.
Typical Hitachi Data Systems accreditation tests include 25 to 35 multiple-choice questions, may or may not be
proctored and can be delivered as closed-book or open-book, either as end-of-course tests or in a stand-alone format.
Passing an accreditation test leads to a Qualification credential. Two levels are available:
Associate - A recognition of expertise acquired in an academic format for a given subject area. This entry-level
credential validates introductory-level technical knowledge.
Professional - A validation of general and foundational knowledge for a given subject area and aligned to a specific job
role. Qualified professionals can perform general-level work in selected subject areas.

Certification
Certification-level exams are designed to effectively and accurately validate that candidates have the skills, knowledge
and abilities to perform specifically identified tasks as they relate to their job in real-life situations.
To pass certification exams, candidates are expected to use knowledge acquired through multiple means and
experiences including various formal and informal training and learning methods.
It is therefore normal and expected that certification exams will cover topics that are beyond the sole scope of
any given course or set of courses that have been identified to support the exams.
Hitachi Data Systems certification exams typically include 55 to 60 multiple-choice questions. They are closed-book
proctored exams delivered at Prometric test centers.
Passing a certification exam leads to a Certification credential. Two levels are available:
Specialist - A validation that the candidate has the required technical knowledge, skills and abilities to perform
advanced tasks in given subject areas. Certified specialists have multilayer technical skills, can handle complex
solutions, and are usually specialized in 1 or more areas.
Expert - A recognition of very high levels of technical knowledge, skills and abilities in 1 or several areas. Certified
experts combine their solid experience in the IT industry with strong expertise and business acumen to deliver highvalue services in complex environments.

| Accessing the HDS Learning Center |
In order to access to the HDS Learning Center (LMS), all customers are provided with an account in the HDS Portal Database. If you don’t have a valid account there
please register yourself via the HDS Portal using the “Need to Register” link on https://portal.hds.com. During the Registration process via the Portal, you will receive
your Logon Credentials to the Learning Center. If you experience any problems, contact us at [email protected].
Access the HDS Learning Center via the following link: https://learningcenter.hds.com
Locate the “Catalog Search” portlet, enter the related course code and click “Search”.
On the “Results” screen, look for your preferred location and start date.
Click Register to enroll into the class.
Use “Add to Plan” to add the class to your Learning Plans for later attendance.
If you are registering yourself for any of the Web-Based Training, start the Training via the “Launch” Link.
