Requirements for Renewal

6 Semester Hours of College Course work.
 1 Semester Hour = 3 CEU’s = 30 clock hours
-OR 18 CEU’s/180 Clock Hours
 10 clock hours = 1 CEU
-OR A combination of the two options that equal
180 Clock Hours or 18 CEU’s

This form is to be used by teachers renewing
their license before 2010.
All college course work and meetings must be
recorded on this sheet.
Official transcripts, certificates, or a verification
signature are required for each entry made on
the form.

License Renewal Options
The LPDC committee has approved
other activities in which contact hours
may be earned for license renewal.
 Examples include: National Board
Certification, Professional Presentations,
Grant Writing, Professional Committee
work, and more.

Renewal Application
Applications cannot be accepted until
January of each year.
 Applications can be downloaded from
http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/
Pages/ODE/ODEDetail.aspx?page=3&Topi

 We suggest you wait until January to
download the form in case changes have
been made by the State.
 Checks must be made payable to:
Treasurer, State of Ohio.

Aligning Licenses
Purpose: To reduce the cost for license
renewal and mandatory fingerprints.
 Options for existing multiple-license
holders.

 As a certificate expires and is ready to be
transitioned to a license, it may be issued as
a separate five-year license with an effective
date reflective of the current year, or it may
be added to a currently existing five-year
professional license.
Aligning Licenses (continued)

New licenses issued separately.
 When educators meet requirements for
provisional or professional licensure in an
additional area or qualifies to advance the
new license will be issued as a separate
license with a current effective year and will
not be back dated to join an exiting license.
 Requirements for license renewal remain
unchanged, regardless of whether licenses
are issued separately or together.
New IPDP
You will be asked to complete a new IPDP
that will address all professional development
activities for the next 5 years.
 You are required to write three goals and
check which educator standard will be met.
 The IPDP will be reviewed and approved at
the LPDC meeting in which you appear to
renew your license.
 IPDP’s may be revised at any time. Additional
goals may be added. Revisions must be
approved by the LPDC.


Goal Requirements
Within 5 years from writing the IPDP you
must meet all Professional Development
Standards and some of the Teacher
Standards.
 BEST Practice: Record all professional
development activities on your Contact
Log Form as you complete them and
record which standard(s) it meets.

Fingerprint Requirements
FBI fingerprinting is required every 5
years.
 BCI is not required for anyone who has
lived within the state of Ohio
continuously for the past five years and
has previously had a BCI check
conducted.
 Fingerprint “Web check” Locations:

 ESC, Tusc. Co. Job & Family Services, BMV
sites, Buckeye CC & YMCA.
SAFE Accounts
SAFE Accounts can be accessed by
visiting the ODE website at
https://safe.ode.state.oh.us/portal
 The Ohio Department of Education (ODE)
launched the Security Application For
Enterprise (SAFE) Web portal in May,
2003. SAFE is a Web Portal and a "single
sign on" software security solution for ODE
customers.
 Your SAFE Account allows you to view
your application status, credentials, and
ODE’s receipt of fingerprints.


 The LPDC meets the second Monday of
every month at 3:30 pm.


