LINKS: Local Involvement networks Presentation by Pat Harris Development Officer Back ground to LINks LINKs introduced in 2007 Public Involvement in Health Act HealthWatch 2012 as a result of Health and Social Care Bill HealthWatch To be the champion of patients, people using services, carers and the wider public both locally and nationally GP Consortia GP consortia will have a duty to involve patients in decisions and will need to engage them in both purchasing and delivery of service Bay Wide Consortia GPCC - (General Practice Commissioning Consortium) already established in Torbay Working in Partnership with Torbay LINK Summary of changes LINKs Influence local services HealthWatch Focus on community voices Local voice Participate in decisionmaking via local authority and new Health and Well Being Board Help and support individuals as well Local and national voice though HealthWatch England HealthWatch In preparation of HealthWatch 2 Stake Holders meeting Applied for pathfinder Status May 2011 Task Group to undertake transition So why we need to work together ? Changing landscape Services will be made more personalised, more preventative, more focused on delivering best outcomes Devolving of power to communities and individuals Busy and challenging time for the sector Multi agency Forum Can Help by Strengthening LINk/Healthwatch Share information and intelligence and feed back to LINk /HealthWatch Duty to engage is not an option for service providers – need to make it count Public and patient involvement be at the heart of service delivery will need to establish relationships with the Local LINK/HealthWatch Local HealthWatch will in turn provide evidence about local communities and their needs and aspirations, in order to design and develop services.
