STAT!Ref® Online includes numerous evidence-based
medical resources including two of the most authoritative
from the American College of Physicians (ACP):
(ACP) Physicians' Information and Education Resource (PIER)©
is a decision-support system that was recently voted the #1
evidence-based medicine, point-of-care tool*.
ACP Journal Club is a tool that saves you time by summarizing
important original research applicable to everyday clinical cases.
*The study, “Systematic Evaluation for Evidence-Based Medicine Tools for Point-of-Care,” rated PIER highest
in all four categories (general information, content, searching ability and results) of the evaluation compared to
13 other major evidence-based resources.

Called the “manual for the standard of care,” ACP’s Physicians’
Information and Education Resource (PIER)® makes it easy for
clinicians to diagnose and treat patients systematically.
PIER includes five
module types and an
evidence-based drug
resource.
Each PIER module includes sections with a variety of
pertinent information.
The Additional Resource section
often includes info from ACP’s
Medical Knowledge Self
Assessment Program (MKSAP).
Searching and browsing are intuitive, because PIER modules
use a structured organization.

Each section of PIER provides truly evidence-based information
to guide your practice.

EBM ratings* make PIER a trusted resource. An A-rated guideline
supports the most authoritative course of action.

The specific recommendation 1.1
gets the highest rating [A] because
it’s supported by a level 1 study. In
other words, it meets all three of the
criteria for a study of prevention.
Rationale is explained and the evidence is summarized for
each PIER recommendation.
PIER comments often add helpful information such as
related clinical trials.

ACP Journal Club saves you time by summarizing original
research applicable to everyday clinical cases.
McMaster Online Rating of Evidence (MORE) gathers ratings of
new articles, already assessed for scientific merit, from sentinel
readers (a panel of 2000+ physicians from around the world).
Rated 5 and 6 out of 7 stars for
relevance and newsworthiness by
sentinel readers, or reviewers in
each related specialty.
ACP Journal Club summarizes studies and states their
implications for health care providers.
Combined, PIER and ACP Journal Club work synergistically in
STAT!Ref online.
