The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness
(STAAR) is the current state assessment program that began in
spring 2012.
For students in grades 3-8, STAAR
replaced the Texas Assessment of
Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) that had
been in place since 2003.
STAAR was created to fulfill the requirements of the 81st Texas
Legislature
