Grading
• 10% - Homework
• 30% - Daily
• 60% - Major
Homework
• Homework – must be turned in on the
assigned due date.
– Homework is an extension of learning in
the classroom and therefore an essential
part of student learning and enrichment.
Homework is not accepted late and will
be counted as a zero per school policy.
Daily Grades
• Daily grades are assessed through work
performance in the classroom setting and
are due in class unless specified by the
teacher.
• A daily grade assignment may be turned in late
for a 10 point grading reduction for up to 3 days
past the due date. The assignment is not
accepted after the 3rd day.
Major Grades
• Major grade assignments are those items
which assess the cumulative learning of
your child.
• Examples of this may be: unit tests, projects,
etc.
• A major grade project (not tests) may be turned
in late for a 10 point grading reduction for up to
3 days past the due date. The assignment is not
accepted after the 3rd day.
District Tests
CISD utilizes benchmark testing to assess the learning of
your child in a standardized fashion.
Benchmarks will occur at major learning intervals in the year
and will provide us with the data to help determine our
teaching.
CISD administers benchmarks for Reading, Writing, Math,
Science, and Social Studies.
Keep watch for benchmark dates on teacher websites.
STAAR
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness
(STAAR®) is the standardized state assessment which
measures your child’s academic learning in the classroom.
Mathematics STAAR – March 30, 2015
Reading STAAR – March 31, 2015
Science STAAR - April 22, 2015
For further information about STAAR go to
www.tea.state.tx.us
Dragons Digging Deeper (D3)
Students will participate in "D3 Time" for 45 minutes
every day. During this time, students will enrich the
learning from their classrooms by working on
targeted areas based on their individual needs.
Through common assessments and benchmark data we
will identify academic skills where children need additional
Instruction. Through this process, we will also look for
areas where we may extend learning to a higher level
(enrichment). All students will participate in “D3 time” in
order to advance their learning and success.
Absences and Tardies
Attendance is an important factor in making your child as
successful as possible in the learning classroom.
Our classes begin officially at 8:05 with attendance taken
every day at 9:00.
A tardy slip is issued by the front office for students who
arrive after 8:05.
Make-up work
Students will have an opportunity to make up any
work missed during an absence.
•It is your child’s responsibility to pick up work that they’ve
missed during their absence.
• Their individual teachers each have a make-up procedure in place
in their classroom.
•Your child will have the number of days missed to complete
and turn in their make-up work without points deducted.
• Ex: If your child is out two days, they will have two days turn it in once
they’ve returned.
If you know in advance that your child may be absent, please
let us know; however, make-up work will not be given in advance for
any reasons and must be obtained when your child returns to school.
Dismissal
• We use the Transportation Tag system to identify the primary
method by which your child goes home.
• If your child is changing transportation for the day, you must
send in a written and signed note. If a change needs to
be made during the day, you must call the front office
and fax a note in stating the change.
• We cannot change transportation from an email.
• Severe Weather Day Dismissal
Discipline
• All students will begin with a conduct grade of
“S” for satisfactory.
• An “E” is reserved for those students who
have gone above and beyond in expectations.
• The conduct form uses an E, S, NI, and U
notation.
•Students will write conduct marks in their
planner. Parents will need to sign the planner if
their child gets a mark.
