Updates to the Scope of Work form
Scope of Work
SOW review is required:
• For service providers who are individuals/sole
proprietors and operate under a Social Security
Number
• To determine if the service provider is an
independent contractor
• To protect CU from penalties if the service provider
should instead be classified as an employee
Scope of Work
Prior to any work being performed:
• Read new PSC Procedural Statement Scope of Work
(SOW)/Independent Contractor
• Complete revised SOW form (describing work, time
period, costs) and have service provider sign
• Scan and email SOW form to [email protected]
• Procedures/form are on PSC website:

Employee Services determines if service provider
will function as an independent contractor:
• If ES approves SOW form, pay for services
through PSC (CU Marketplace)
• If ES does not approve SOW, pay for services
through payroll (HRMS)

The project team will be putting together work groups to make
recommendations/decisions in the following areas:

In conjunction with a third-party provider, the plan is to use forms to do much of
the data entry in HCM (Job Actions, Salary Changes, Time Collection)

CU Careers)

Tax Reminders
• Do you want to update your W-4 for 2015?
– Log in to the portal’s CU Resources area (my.cu.edu)
– Select Payroll and Compensation
– Click on W-4 to update your information.
• Did you claim last year that you are exempt from Taxes?
– If you filed as tax exempt in 2014, you must complete a 2015
W-4 Form—whether to refile as tax exempt or begin withholding
taxes—before Feb. 9.
– Otherwise, you will automatically begin withholding the greatest
amount of taxes from your paycheck (single, 0).
Tax Reminders
• W-2s will be mailed by January no later than
Jan. 31, 2015
• For Non-resident Aliens, the 1042-S will be
mailed no later than March 15
Tax Reminders
• The 2015 Social Security wage base is $118,500, which represents
a 1.28 percent increase over 2014.
• The withholding maximum amount in 2015 rises to $7,347 (6.2
percent withholding on earning up to $118,500).
• If 2014 contributions have stopped due to meeting the 2014 Social
Security maximum, deductions will resume Jan. 1, 2015.
• No maximum applies for Medicare taxes, with a tax rate of 1.45
percent.
Tax Reminders
• The employee Medicare tax rate remains at 0.9 percent on
wages more than $200,000 in a year.
• The employee’s actual liability for the additional tax will
depend on the employee’s filing status and the amount of
wages and other compensation paid to the employee and/or
spouse.
• The over-withholding and under-withholding of Medicare tax
for employees will be reconciled when they file their personal
tax returns.
New Employees
• Ask new employees to complete their direct
deposit and W-4 information in the portal
(my.cu.edu). There’s no need to submit paper.
• Ask employees verify that their address and
phone numbers are correct.

8 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015
and ends at
5 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015
