Army Ten Miler
WHO: Cowboy Battalion Army Ten Miler Team
WHAT: Army 10-Miler race
WHEN: 10-13OCT2014
WHERE: University of Wyoming
SUMMARY: The Army Ten Miler (ATM) is an annual race held in Washington D.C. This
year, the Cowboy Battalion sent a team of 8 cadets to compete. The course is designed
to run through the National Mall allowing cadets both the opportunity to compete and see
the National sites.
This year more than 26,000 people competed in the race. The race is made up
of teams, individual runners and wounded warriors. ATM has the mission to
promote the Army, build espirt de corps, support Army fitness goals, and enhance
community relations. All proceeds from the ATM go to benefit soldier Morale,
Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs.
We sent a team of 8 cadets to participate in the race this year. The team
consisted of cadets Bever, Lichtfuss, Plush, Bauchat, Armstrong, Kasprisin,
McArthur, B and their team captain cadet Hamblen. The team finished strong with
exceptional times after completing a strict training regiment. The fastest racer on
the team was cadet McArthur finishing with a time of 1:05.02 and placing 506 th out
of over 35,000 competitors and participants. Which is in the top 1.9% in the
Nation!
As with every year the cadets were allowed the chance to see many national
monuments and sites, allowing time to reflect and remember why they serve. The
ATM is more than just a race to the Army, as stated above. It is beneficial to the
MWR and promotes health and fitness throughout the Army. The Cowboy
Battalion team represented Wyoming well placing two cadets in the top 1,000 with
several personal records. Job well done.
The Army Ten Miler is held annually in October with the next race already
scheduled for October 11, 2015.
