WHO: Cowboy Battalion Cadets
WHAT: Joint Military Ball
WHEN: 16 Nov 2012
WHERE: Crane-Hill Hall, University of Wyoming
SUMMARY: The University of Wyoming Army ROTC “Cowboy
Battalion” held its annual Joint Military Ball this past Friday in order
to increase camaraderie and promote joint military functions.
The Guest Speaker at this year’s Ball was Brigadier General Kevin B.
Wooton who serves as the director of communications and
information at Headquarters Air Force Space Command at Peterson
Air Force Base, Colorado. He serves as a critical part of the Air
Force's space and cyber forces with communications and information
capability. General Wooten has been deployed in support of
Operation Desert Storm and more recently Operation Enduring
Freedom, where he served as the director of intelligence, Joint
Special Operations Task Force-South. During his message he
encouraged cadets to stand up as leaders and make decisions during
our career. He shared his experiences and insights, as well as
thanking the cadets for their commitment to serving our nation.
The evening was full of events. There was a receiving line featuring
special guests, which included battalion and detachment leadership.
The National Anthem was presented to us by the Bettys, UW's
female vocal group, while cadets posted the colors. Formal toasts
were given to honor country leaders while a slide show was
presented to honor the graduating seniors. The POW/MIA table
presented us with a constant reminder of soldiers who could not
attend but are always present in spirit. The event concluded with
cadets and dates dancing until 11:00pm.
Although the Joint Military Ball officially started at 6:00 P.M.,
preparation began much earlier. Cadets went through multiple
rehearsals to ensure everything ran smoothly. Their time and
efforts were much appreciated and they made this event possible.
