Different Methods of Translation
1-Word-for-word translation
• It is considered the worst way in translating and
may end with a completely different meaning of
the text, if understood.
• This method should only be used for teaching
reasons to show differences in word order
between languages, and must not be used
professionally in translating texts of any field.
• For example: Ali bought a red car
‫على اشترى حمراء سيارة‬
2- Literal translation
• This method is used in a limited way in some
fields that may accept literal translation and may
be applied in machine translation.
• For example: Ali bought a red car
‫اشترى علي سيارة حمراء‬
3- Bound free translation
• This method is the most common way of
translation
• The translator has some kind of freedom in
translating the given text after understanding
the meaning fully, but has to keep the form and
the meaning of the text.
4- Loose free Translation
• This method is rare, and may considered to
some linguists and translator as un faithfulness
to the text.
• In this method, the translator reads the text and
then translates it in his or her style and wording.
• For example: Literary translation or translation
of poetry.
