Summarizing
Informational
Text
Learning Target
• We will summarize
informational texts to
identify the main
ideas and supporting
details.
• I will know I am
successful when I can
write an effective
summary of an
informational text.
Summarizing
What is it?
• Briefly retelling an event
in your own words.
Why do it?
• Allows the reader to identify
the main idea and supporting
details.
• Enables the reader to
condense the information into
something easy to share with
others.
Concise—giving a lot of information
clearly and in a few short words; brief
but comprehensive
