OUR 5770 THEME!
DEREKH ERETZ KADMA
LA’TORAH
DEREKH ERETZ
IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN TORAH!?!
8
WHAT IS DEREKH
ERETZ AND WHY IS IT
MORE IMPORTANT
THAN TORAH?
9
WELL…DEREKH ERETZ
IS HARD TO TRANSLATE!
10
DEREKH ERETZ

literally means “The Way of the Land”
Being a “MENSCH” is how Jews
often define “the way of the land”.
The way of the land is behaving
with ‘common courtesy’ - manners.
11
At Religious School we learn what it
means to be a MENSCH.
The Jewish ways is to behave with
DEREKH
ERETZ
.

14
Why is Derekh Eretz
more important than Torah?
Knowledge is worthless if you don’t
get the most basic lesson =
good behavior – Derekh Eretz!
15
One reason Jews pray is take time to judge their
behavior and make they are behaving with
DEREKH ERETZ !
At Religious School, another way we can make
sure we behave with
Derekh Eretz  
is by climbing the
M&M ladder.
We go higher when we do
MITZVOT and behave with MIDDOT!
16
We appreciate our lives each morning!
Modeh Ani – Siddur p. 2
MODEH /MODAH ani l’fanekha
Melekh hai v’kayam
She’he’hezarta bi nishmati
B’hemla raba emunatekha
Thank you God, King of our people
For returning my soul to me
So I can get up, fresh, every morning
Knowing you are watching over me.
17
We come together as friends!
A-O-O-A
V'ahavta le’reakha camokha
Ze klal gadol ba'torah
Don’t walk in front of me I may not follow
Don’t walk behind me I may not lead
Just walk beside me and be my friend and
together we’ll walk In the way of HaShem.

PSUKEI D’ZIMRA – INTRODUCTORY PSALMS
Birkot HaShahar - Sh’asani Yisrael
Who made me a Jew
We've existed so long ‘cuz the Torah kept us strong
And the Torah will never disappear, Oh No!
Through the ages it was brought,
by the children who were taught,
to follow it and constantly declare…
I’m a Jew and I’m proud and I’ll sing it out loud
Cuz forever that’s what I’ll be (oh yah)
I’m a Jew and I’m proud and that’s without a doubt
Cuz God is always watching over me (over me)….
20

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with
all your soul , with all your might. And these
words which I command you this day you shall
take to heart. You shall diligently teach them to
your children. You shall repeat them at home
and away, morning and night. You shall bind
them as a sign upon your hand, they shall be a
reminder above your eyes, and you shall
inscribe them upon the doorposts of your homes
and upon your gates.

He who brings peace to His universe, will bring peace to us and all the
people Israel. And let us say, Amen
30
In Elul we finish our service with
the blowing of the shofar!
The Shofar reminds us
it’s time to do
TESHUVAH!
1. Recall what things we may
not have done so well this
year!
2. Apologize to whom we may
have hurt.
3. Figure out how we may do
better in the new year.
