LA FOLLA: DAGLI “OSANNA” PASSA AL “SIA CROCIFISSO”
DOMENICA DELLE PALME E DELLA PASSIONE DEL SIGNORE
L’ODIERNA celebrazione apre la settimana santa e ci pone dinanzi al mistero dell’accoglienza di Gesù. Dovremmo chiederci
perché le stesse persone che osannano
il Figlio di Davide pochi giorni dopo lo
abbandonano e lo tradiscono? Perché i
progetti omicidi si trasformano in realtà? Le
risposte
potrebbero
essere
innumerevoli, il Signore Gesù e i cristiani
sono persone scomode (I Lettura).
Dobbiamo essere realisti, a volte
percepiamo come se Dio ci abbandonasse. Ci
chiediamo dove sia la ricompensa per
tutto il bene che facciamo. In questa
settimana, più che fare domande al
Signore, potremmo decidere di fargli
compagnia. Sapremo rinunciare per
una settimana alle nostre rivendicazioni verso
Dio per stare accanto a lui? L’iniziativa
divina di scendere in mezzo alle sue creature
avrebbe
meritato
ben
diversa
ricompensa che solitudine, passione e morte
(II Lettura). Cristo non si aspettava
condottieri che lo liberassero, ma compagnia
e compassione. Entriamo con il cuore di Maria santissima nel mistero pasquale che ci rivela lo smisurato amore di Dio per

PASSION (PALM) SUNDAY
IT IS TEMPTING to approach today’s readings with “theological eyes” – to focus on Jesus’ sufferings as affirming the fullness of
his humanity, on suffering as potentially graced and transformative, or to reflect on Eucharist and resurrection as an ever-present
witness to Jesus’ gift of self. Yet today’s scripture draws our attention to the stark reality of suffering: to its difficulties, its cost.
We all know suffering. It is hard. It is painful: physically, emotionally, spiritually. Suffering is often lonely, a place of fear,
isolation and vulnerability. Sometimes it takes all we have to endure, to get through it. Sometimes it seems unfair, unjust, more
than we can or should have to bear. It is this experience of suffering we are invited to reflect upon during Holy Week.
In Luke’s gospel we encounter a Jesus who chooses a painful journey. Because we know suffering, we are able to walk with him,
to be one with him. As we enter into his passion, our relationship with Jesus deepens. In wonder and gratitude we recognize anew
that God too knows our darkness, our suffering. No one is ever alone, even there.
Jesus’ passion invites our com-passion: our loving presence to his suffering. And Jesus’ passion, Luke tells us, makes way for the
coming of the kingdom of God. Let us witness to the divine presence in our world through our compassion. Ella Allen,

Reflections for the Year of Mercy - March 20, 2016
Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Misericordiae Vultus: The Face of Mercy is Pope Francis’ official decree announcing this Jubilee Year
of Mercy. But Francis had already declared that Jesus “has shown the face of God’s mercy” back in
2013 on his first Palm Sunday as pope. Francis described Luke’s account of Jesus’ entrance into
Jerusalem: “Crowds, celebrating, praise, blessing, peace: joy fills the air. Jesus has awakened great
hopes, especially in the hearts of the simple, the humble, the poor, the forgotten, those who do not
matter in the eyes of the world. He understands human sufferings . . . has bent down to heal body and
soul.” Entering Jerusalem, Jesus looks at all of us with love, Francis continued, at our sicknesses and
sins. “A beautiful scene, full of light—the light of the love of Jesus” (Pope Francis, Palm Sunday
homily, March 24, 2013). May this Jubilee Year’s Holy Week and Triduum make us Jesus’ own lightbearers and love-givers to all who long to see the Face of Mercy.

Most Rev. Richard W. Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton, is inviting parishioners to participate
in the upcoming series of “conversations with the Archbishop” about assisted suicide
and euthanasia, that the Archdiocese is hosting. The series of 5 sessions will be called Every
Life Matters, conducted over a 10-day period in different parishes in the archdiocese. The
dates and times of the 5 sessions follow.

In his letter to all parishioners, Archbishop Smith wrote that “we need to share the beauty of
Catholic teaching on life and death, hear inspiring stories from personal witnesses, and
answer some of the questions with which we know our people are struggling. In Holy Week,
we reflect in a special way on the suffering and death of Our Lord, and remember that he is
always close to us in our own pain.”
THE POOR CHILDREN’S MISSION
PROJECT IN ODISHA, INDIA
CFIC missionaries are planning a Year of Mercy
project – a home for the poor children in the
state of Odisha, India. CFIC Fathers and
Brothers are already working in the Diocese of
Berhampur since 2011, missionaries working
among the poor needy people of remote villages
of Odisha, thus trying to organize the life of the
poor especially the children. The project aims
to provide for the following:
Chapel for the village,
School,
Dispensary,
Hostel for children to go to school and
clean drinking water.

So CFIC missionaries are into this project
for those less fortunate people in that part
of India. Please join this mission
project…contribute towards this project in
this Year of Mercy… take it as our own
project…let us be merciful to the poor. Tax
receipts will be issued by CFIC.
Fr. George, our pastor, and a small group
from our parish will be visiting CFIC
missions in India in April.

DI UNA MISSIONE
IN ODISHA (INDIA)
I religiosi missionari della Congregazione dei
Figli dell’Immacolata Concezione (CFIC)
stanno programmando un progetto denominato
“Anno della Misericordia” che consiste nel
procurare una casa per i fanciulli poveri nello
Stato di Odisha (India). I religiosi (Sacerdoti e
Fratelli) della CFIC sono già attivi nella Diocesi
di Berhampur fin dal 2011. Essi assistono i
ragazzi poveri di un villaggio sperduto in
Odisha con l’intento di offrire loro buone
prospettive di vita. Il progetto comprende:
Una cappella per il villaggio
Una scuola
Un dispensario
Un ostello per ragazzi in età scolare
Un sistema di erogazione di acqua potabile
Pertanto i missionary CFIC hanno intrapreso
questo progetto per le persone più bisognose in
quella parte dell’India.

Daylight savings time last weekend; first day of spring this
weekend; and, more importantly, Palm Sunday! The weeks move
so quickly and we look with hope towards a season of warmth and
Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. We
commemorate Jesus' arrival to Jerusalem when palm
branches were laid in front of his path. Palm branches
symbolized goodness and victory. Let our victory be in
our resolve to keep our faith strong and in doing
charitable duty.
Your Knights thank our parishioners and all guests who
attended our annual Gala last week. It was a successful
evening with wonderful people, great food and dancing,
and fundraising for a great cause. We worked extremely
hard to put on a great evening and we couldn't do it
without your participation. It is a labour of love! We are
already looking forward to next year's Gala!
