The Spectrometer Solenoid review
documentation http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=110250
reviewers:
Amalia Ballarino – CERN ,
Elwyn Baynham – ITER,
Tom Bradshaw – STFC,
Mike Courthold – STFC,
Vladimir Kashikhin – Fermilab,
Robert Sanders – Fermilab
and Pasquale Fabbricatore acting as chair –INFN-Genova).
MICE collaboration members attended the review
Alain Blondel– UNi Geneva,
Alan Bross – FERMILAB
Andy Nichols – SFTC
Review began 27 October (where repair plan was described by Steve Virostek)
intermediate meetings 11 Nov and 29 Nov. Final report on 14 December
MICE note 335 has all information about the review (incl. proposal for repair plan)

The Spectrometer Solenoid review
Main conclusions:
1. Review committee acknowledges additional staff put by LBNL to magnet
2. needs to intensify these contributions
3. The review committee does not recommend moving forward with repair plan
but before doing so
A-- to complete the thermal model calculations
B– to study an effective protection of the magnets and particularly of the leads
This last point is seen as quite critical
Now SS team will study the recommendations of the panel, evaluate consequences
not quite ready yet. Main issue is calculation of needs concerning quench protection
1. time to execute  additional delay of a few months.
2. costs (almost 1M$ cost-to-complete for the two spectrometers)
According to original plan (including magnetic measts) we would expect delivery
at RAL of SS1 in Oct11 and SS2 in Mar12
 a delay of a few more months to complete/approve the plan
Berkeley team has proposed to execute already a certain amount work
not.inconsistent
with
recommendations
to improve schedule

MOM 2011
we have restarted MOMs on 17 January (needed when ISIS is running)
goals for 2011 : commission new target (Champion: target group)
increase beam loss limit (Champion: target group)
commission EMR (June-August) (Champion: EMR group)
complement Step I measurements if necessary
(Champion: Apollonio)
TOF and KL calibrations (Champion Maurizio)
See preliminary plan of activities data taking
 to be finalized at CM29 with input from installation team

ISIS running periods, MICE CM29/30/31 and MOM Rota
proposed MICE runs in 2011  to be finalized at CM29

Coupling coils
review took place in Mid december.
First coil has been wound at Qi Huan 
Serious concerns about delays at HIT
for testing cryostat.
milestones given in June 2010:
Complete winding of MuCool coil on mandrel
 finished in december 2010 – not bad.
Complete testing of large test coil in ICST test facility
 delayed till at least September 2011….

The next occasion: visit of Derun Li in February 2011.
At the same time, US team now investigating/developing a back-up plan
for the construction/test/assembly of the coupling coils.

MICE overall magnet coordination
It has been felt necessary (since May 2010) to have an overall coordination
of the MICE magnets.
Team will be led by Roy Preece and Mike Courthold. They have agreed.
