The Viikki Campus Library is one of the four campus libraries. • The library is located in the Korona Information Centre. • The Viikki Campus Library serves all information seekers in the fields of biological and environmental sciences, agriculture, forestry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine. • The library provides high-standard and easy-to-use digital and printed collections, lending and interlibrary loan services, guidance and information skills training. Its duties include: Produces and provides laboratory animals for research and training. Provides services on gene modified mice. Assists researchers to plan and carry out animal experiments. Follows and enforces the development of the national and international legislation and guidelines of the laboratory animal science and instructs researcher communities to attend them. Looks after that the ethical principles of the laboratory animal science are fulfilled at the University of Helsinki. Provides professional up-dating and post-graduate education in laboratory animal science. Instructs and makes statements and provides research assistance concerning laboratory animal use. 23 www.helsinki.fi/kek 7.11.2015 The Laboratory Animal Centre of the University of Helsinki Laboratory Animal Centre has facilities in Viikki, Meilahti and Ruskeasuo campuses In Viikki, the LAC has rodent facilities in Biocenter 2 and 3, the Large Animal unit and a part of the GM unit Personnel: ~ 65 (administrative staff 7 , immediate superiors 6, animal technicians and caretakers ~50) – about a fourth of them are working in Viikki campus at the moment. Laboratory Animal Centre will concentrate more services to Viikki after the Rodent Centre has been finalized in 2013.
