รู ปประโยคของ Past Perfect Tense นี้ ไม่วา่ ประธานจะเป็ น
เอกพจน์หรื อพหูพจน์จะต้องใช้กิริยาช่วย had กับกิริยาช่อง 3
เสมอ เช่น
I had gone out before John came.
We had finished when Bill came in.

หลักกำรใช้
1. ใช้กบั เหตุการณ์ 2 เหตุการณ์เกิดขึ้นและสิ้ นสุ ดลงแล้วในอดีต เหตุการณ์
หนึ่งเกิดขึ้นก่อนอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่ง
เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นก่อน ใช้ Past Perfect
เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นหลัง ใช้ Past Simple
และมักจะเชื่อมด้วยคาว่า when , before , after , until , as soon as เช่น
- He had writtten to her four time s when he got her reply
( ใช้ past perfect เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นว่า เขาเขียนถึงเธอ 4 ครั้ง ก่อนที่เขาได้รับ
คาตอบจากเธอ )

ตัวอย่ ำงเช่ น
By the time the sun set , we had left the school.
By the time the children went to bed , they had already finished their
homework.
3. ใช้หลังคาว่า that ในประโยค Indirect Speech ซึ่งเปลี่ยนมาจากประโยค
Direct Speech เช่น
He told me that they had left about an hour before.
They said that they had done the report.

PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS

หลักกำรใช้
ใช้กบั เหตุการณ์ในอดีต เหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดขึ้นก่อนและกาลังดาเนิน
อยูเ่ ป็ นเวลาต่อเนื่องกัน ก่อนที่จะมีเหตุการณ์อีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่ง
เกิดขึ้น ซึ่งก็เหมือนกับ Past Perfect นัน่ เอง แตกต่างกับ Past
Perfect ตรงที่เน้นถึงอาการที่ได้ดาเนินต่อเนื่องกันไปเท่านั้น
กิริยาที่ใช้จะเป็ น long action verbs เช่น wait , work , live , go ,
lie , play , sleep , talk , sit , ect.
ตัวอย่ ำงเช่ น
We had been discussing the matter for two and a half hours when he
arrived.
(แสดงให้เห็นถึงการอภิปรายที่เริ่ มต้นก่อนที่เขาจะมา และบางที
จะดาเนิต่อไปอีก)
When he came , she had been waitting for half an hour
2. ใช้แสดงการกระทาที่เป็ นอดีต แต่ปรากฏผลให้เห็นในเวลาต่อมา
เช่น
Mary was dark because she had been sunbathing.
I was tired baecause I had been driving all day.
เปรียบเทียบกำรใช้ Past Perfect
และ Past perfect Continuous
Past Perfect
: He had slept for three hours when we called him up.
Past perfect Progressive : He had been sleeping for three hours when we
called him up.
ทั้งสองประโยคมีความหมายเหมือนกัน แต่ในประโยคที่สองเป็ นการเน้นว่า มี
การนอนอยูต่ ลอดเป็ นเวลา 3 ชัว่ โมง
