PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
Use
We use past continuous:
• To express an action which continued for a period of time in the past, but
whose limits are not known or are not important:
We were working in the factory.
• To indicate gradual development:
He was making me nervous.
• To express an interrupted action in the past:
I was talking to my mother when you called me.
• To express an exact moment in the past when an action was taking place
Yesterday at this time, I was talking with my new girlfriend.
PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
We use “when” to indicate the time when the action was taking place
When I saw her in the park, she was talking to someone on the phone.
She was having dinner when I arrived.
When she was sleeping, someone rang her doorbell.
We use “while” to indicate two actions happening at the same time.
He was reading a book while she was listening to music.
He was writing a letter while she was working on her computer?
She was sleeping while he was talking to her.
