to enhance safe operation of motor vehicles and
nonmotorized vehicles; and
to protect and enhance the natural environment
and other resources affected by surface
transportation.

including Federal Aid Highways, Highway
Safety, Public Transportation, Research, and
Transportation Planning.

Funds available for each class of Federal
lands highway are available for ITS projects
eligible for assistance under
Title 23.

framework for planning, defining, and
integrating ITS.

A regional ITS architecture is a specific
regional or transportation service area
framework
States, MPOs, and local agencies would be
required to develop and maintain a regional
ITS architecture
Different Types of “Regions” including rural
corridors, tourist areas, National Parks, and
potentially National Forest.
Provision should be made to include
participation from the Forest Service
