Highest quality of our chemistry programmes!
Universitetskanslersämbetet (the Swedish Higher Education Authority) has
the task of evaluating all higher education. The Government has laid down a
qualification descriptor for each qualification awarded by the higher education institutions. Irrespective of the organisation of the studies that have led
to the award of a qualification, the quality of the courses and programmes
must always be high enough to ensure that the goals laid down in the
qualification descriptor are attained.

Inga Fischer-Hjalmars Award
Joakim Stenhammar, tidigare doktorand vid avdelningen för Fysikalisk
kemi, KILU, har fått 2013 års Inga Fischer-Hjalmars Award för sin avhandling
”Theoretical Studies of simple Polar Fluids”. Motiveringen lyder bland annat:
”för djupgående studie av en härledd multipolfluktuationsformel med hjälp
av bl.a. Monte Carlo-beräkningar av Stockmayer-partikelmodellen”.
MER INFORMATION
Wallenbergs Stiftelse supports nationally significant infrastructure
Professor Reine Wallenberg and his collegues have been awarded a grant
of 31 million SEK to ”Environmental electron microscopy facility”.
– The availability of advanced microscopy is of great importance to the
further development of basic research in several scientific areas. It is therefore encouraging that the Foundation can help to ensure that Swedish
researchers have access to the equipment needed, says Göran Sandberg,
executive member, Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.

Debate about quality aspects of a dissertation
Charlotta Turner writes, in her latest blog comment at SFF (Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research), about the difficulties to judge and possibly
reject a doctoral thesis of disputable quality.
