Transcript Noah and the Flood

“Lesson 8: Noah and the Flood,”
Primary 6: Old
Testament, (1996),31
What could happen if people did not obey
each of these signs?
How do these signs help us?
They warn us of possible danger and tell us
what to do to be safe.
Heavenly Father wants us to be
safe from the evils and
temptations of the world.
He has given us someone to
warn and teach us.
Listen
Believe
If we will listen, believe, and
obey the prophet, Heavenly
Father will bless us.
Obey
Many years passed after
Adam and Eve had lived and
died.
Most of the people on earth
were wicked.
But Noah and his three sons
were righteous. They obeyed
God’s commandments.
Noah had the priesthood.
God was very sad
because the people
were wicked.
God told Noah to tell
the people to repent.
He would send a flood
to the earth.
Noah told the people
to repent. He told them
to believe in Jesus
Christ.
He told them to be
baptized. Then the Holy
Ghost would help
them.
The wicked people did
not listen to Noah.
They did not repent.
They tried to kill Noah.
God said all the wicked people on
earth would die in the flood.
Most of the animals would die.
But Noah and his family would
not die. God told Noah to build a
big ship.
It was called an ark. Noah and his
sons obeyed God. They built the
ark.
The ark had many rooms. It had a
window and a door on the side.
Noah and his sons put food in the
ark.
Two animals of every unclean and
seven animals of every clean kind
came to Noah. God told Noah to
put them in the ark. (Note: People
were allowed to eat “clean”
animals and were forbidden to eat
“unclean” animals.)
Noah and his family went into the
ark.
Rain began to fall. It rained for 40
days and 40 nights. The water
covered the earth.
The wicked people died in the
flood.
Noah’s family was safe on
the ark. God blessed
them.
At last the rain stopped.
The water stayed on the
earth for a long time.
Then the water went
down.
The ark landed on a high
mountain. The land
became dry again.
Noah took his family and
the animals out of the ark.
Noah thanked God for
saving their lives. He built
an altar. He burned
sacrifices.
God promised Noah he
would never again send a
flood to cover the earth.
God put a rainbow in the
sky. The rainbow helps
people remember God’s
promise to Noah.
Noah was obedient to
the Lord in spite of the
ridicule of his friends
and neighbors.
Because Noah’s family
listened and obeyed his
teachings, they were
saved from the Flood,
but the wicked people
who would not listen
and obey were
drowned.
What kind of a man was
Noah?
Genesis 6:9, 22
What characteristics
must he have had to
respond to the
assignment to build an
ark?
What qualities can you
develop that will help
you do what Heavenly
Father wants you to do?
How did Noah try to help
the people before the
Flood?
Let’s read Moses 8:20
How did the people react to
Noah’s teachings?
Let’s read Moses 8:21–22
Why do you think the
people wanted to kill Noah?
Let’s read Moses 8:18
What were the consequences
for those who obeyed Noah?
Let’s read Genesis 7:1, 7
What were the consequences
for those who didn’t obey
Noah?
Let’s read Genesis 7:23
What are the consequences if
we don’t obey the living
prophet?
What did Noah
do after he was
able to leave
the ark?
Let’s read
Genesis 8:20
Why should we express gratitude to
Heavenly Father even when we have
been through a difficult experience?
What messages have
our modern-day
prophets given us?
I’ll put your responses
on the chalkboard.
How can each of these
messages help us?
President Thomas S. Monson has
served as the 16th President of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints since February 3, 2008.
He was born in Salt Lake City, on
August 21, 1927
President Monson served in the
United States Navy near the close of
World War II.
He married Frances Beverly Johnson
on October 7, 1948, in the Salt Lake
Temple. They are the parents of
three children, with eight
grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
Enrichment Activity 1
In a general conference talk, President Monson told of a
tree destroyed by a metal wedge that had become hidden
inside it. He then explained how hidden wedges of anger or
resentment can destroy our lives unless we learn to forgive.
… In many families, there are hurt feelings and a reluctance
to forgive. It doesn’t really matter what the issue was. It
cannot and should not be left to injure. Blame keeps
wounds open. Only forgiveness heals. George Herbert, an
early 17th-century poet, wrote these lines: “He that cannot
forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself
must pass if he would ever reach heaven, for everyone has
need of forgiveness.” …
May we … harbor no hidden wedges but rather remember
the Savior’s counsel: “By this shall all men know that ye are
my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” Enrichment Activity 1
I am going to conduct an interview with Noah,
his wife, and his family. You get to play the
parts!
Put these scarves on your heads and put on
these robes & put the sign around your neck
of who you are now!
Enrichment Activity 2
Answer these questions:
What did God tell you to do?
How did you feel when the wicked people
laughed at you and did not listen to you?
How did you feel during and after the
Flood?
Enrichment Activity 2
We believe in being honest, true, chaste,
benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all
men; indeed, we may say that we follow the
admonition of Paul—We believe all things,
we hope all things, we have endured many
things, and hope to be able to endure all
things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely,
or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek
after these things.
Enrichment Activity 3
How does the Thirteenth Article of Faith apply to the books
we read and the movies and television programs we
watch?
Inappropriate movies, television programs, and books are
offensive to our Heavenly Father.
President Ezra Taft Benson, thirteenth President of the
Church, said: “Your thoughts will determine your actions,
and so they must be controlled. It’s difficult to control
those thoughts if you submit yourself to temptation. So you
will have to carefully select your reading material, the
movies you see, and the other forms of entertainment in
order to have good thoughts rather than unwholesome
desires” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1985, pp. 47–48; or Ensign, May 1985, p. 36).
How we can avoid exposure to negative influences and fill
our minds with virtuous and lovely thoughts? Enrichment Activity 3
… Are papers with some
temptations or difficulties you
may have to face
You will each get a turn to
choose a slip of paper and tell
what the prophets have taught
us about handling the situations.

… said this about journal
writing: “I promise you that if
you will keep your journals … ,
they will indeed be a source of
great inspiration to your
families, to your children, your
grandchildren, and others, on
through the generations.”
(“President Kimball Speaks Out on Personal Journals,” Ensign, Dec. 1980,
61)
Here is a journal for each of
you to take home and write in!

12 And God said, This is the token of the
covenant which I make between me and you
and every living creature that is with you, for
perpetual generations:
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be
for a token of a covenant between me and the
earth.
14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a
cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be
seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is
between me and you and every living creature
of all flesh; and the waters shall no more
become a flood to destroy all flesh. Enrichment Activity 6
“… An outward token of God’s covenant with
Noah. The rainbow no doubt existed before the
flood, but with Noah the rainbow took on a
new significance as the token of the covenant.”
JST Gen. 9: 17-25 enlarges the terms of the
covenant to include not only that the earth will
never again be covered with a flood of water,
but also that the Zion of Enoch will return and
the Lord will come again to dwell on the earth.”

We are his descendants in the latter days.
In the tabernacle, Samuel heard his name;
He was called by God and answered, “Here I am!”

When we really try, the Lord won’t let us fail:
Heav’nly Father took them up to live with him.
That’s what Jonah learned deep down inside the

3. Noah was a prophet called to preach the word,
Tried to cry repentance, but nobody heard.
8. Daniel was a prophet. He refused to sin;
They were busy sinning—Noah preached in vain.
So the king threw Daniel in the lion’s den.
They wished they had listened when they saw the
Angels calmed the lions, and the king soon saw

Daniel’s pow’r was great, for he obeyed God’s law.
4. Abraham the prophet prayed to have a son,

So the Lord sent Isaac as the chosen one.
If you don’t believe it, go and watch the news.
Isaac begat Jacob, known as Israel;
We can get direction all along our way,
Jacob’s sons were twelve tribes, so the Bible tells.
If we heed the prophets—follow what they say.

He would lead them to the promised land to
Follow the prophet, follow the prophet,

Follow the prophet; don’t go astray.
They were slow to follow, or so it appears.
Follow the prophet, follow the prophet,
They were in the wilderness for forty years.
Follow the prophet; he knows the way.

I am grateful for the
teachings of the prophets
found in the scriptures
and for modern-day
prophets who warn,
teach, and guide us.
Your challenge is to listen
to the next general
conference. Give special
attention to the teachings
of the prophet, and
discuss these teachings
with your families.
