What was the author’s argument?
• Be it resolved that Indian names or characters
should not be used for school mascots
because it is the name of a race group and
when it is used as a team mascot, it is
degrading and exploitative.
What was the author’s evidence?
• Anecdote- Friend’s 8 year old son’s reaction of
humilation
• Facts- Early Am Writers perpetuated the
stereotype dehumanizing indians
• Conclusion- This lead to genocide
• Explanation- Purposeful extermination- “red
skins”
• Lawsuit- Minnesota about the role of the
mascot

people, reverse the situation, it’s the right
thing to do …
