PURBECK RAILWAY
CIRCLE
“Signalling the Link”
A presentation by
Mike Walshaw,
Swanage Railway
Signal & Telegraph Dept.
“Project Wareham” will see
the Swanage Railway linked
with the Main Line at Worgret
Junction under a
Swanage Railway –
Network Rail Partnership.
Show No.4
We look at the work carried out
by Contractors to lay the
Signalling Cable for the
Token System
between
Norden and Wareham
.
Cleveland Cables Ltd deliver 3 huge
drums of cable to Norden
We crane them onto our Road-Railer
Trailer for secure storage
Then we take delivery of more cable
from Anixter!
And take it away for storage
Project Manager Mike Walshaw confers
with the team from S&T Cover Ltd, who will
lay and bury the cable for us.
S&T Cover hire this Road-Rail
Caterpillar Digger
It joins our own Road-Railer!
S&T Cover get to work with this
Mini Digger
Hard at work, somewhere between
Norden and Worgret Junction
Here an under-track crossing is being
dug out
A drum of cable is brought from its
secure storage location to be laid in
the trench
And trundled down the Line behind a
Road-Railer
The cable is carefully laid in the trench
that has been dug for it
Men at work, somewhere in the wilds
of Purbeck!
The cable sections are to be jointed
together at Dis Boxes …
And terminated…
Tricky work indeed!
That’s all for tonight!
