In 2000 Colombia grew 74% of the world’s coca leaves, the raw ingredient for cocaine. But these days it has fallen behind. The UN believes that in 2011 Colombia produced about 42% of the world’s coca, only slightly more than Peru. And last year a White House report concluded that when it comes to the production of cocaine itself, Colombia has now fallen behind both Peru and Bolivia. Why is less cocaine coming from Colombia? http://www.economist.com/blogs/economist-explains/2013/04/economistexplains-why-colombia-produces-less-cocaine Colombia COLOMBIA Exporta: Petróleo, café, plátanos, flores, algodón, arroz, textiles, azúcar, carbón, sal y esmeraldas Importa: Maquinaria, suministros químicos y cereales TURISMO http://www.colombia.travel/es/ Colombia's business environment will continue to improve over the forecast period, underpinned by a generally stable political environment, open policies towards private enterprise, foreign investment and trade, and the likelihood of important reforms to the land, tax and health systems. Owing to security improvements, the internal conflict will be less of a hindrance to business activity and foreign investment than in the past. However, deficiencies in the labour market owing to high costs and widespread informality, a poor infrastructure and a complex and unsettled tax regime will remain weak aspects of the business environment.
