1. From Benvolio’s description in Act 1 Scene 1
of Romeo’s behavior, and his father’s
confirmation of it, list four of the characteristics
of a young man in love.
2. Which of the first twelve lines spoken by
Romeo (p. 34-36 lines 155-171) sum up the
theme of the play as a whole? Why?

• Choose a scene from Act 1: either scene 2
(between Capulet and Paris: pages 40-42), or
scene 3 (between Lady Capulet, the Nurse,
and Juliet – pg. 52-54, lines 60-101)
• Rewrite the scene in your own language.

Shakespeare. Include all stage directions.
• Do not copy from either the original text or
modern version in the book.
