The Thanksgiving Story
By
Linda Rhodes
Introduction
• We are going to
learn a few facts
about Pilgrims,
Indians, and the
first Thanksgiving
Harvest Celebration.
Why the Pilgrims came to
America
• The Pilgrims were
unhappy with England.
• They were unhappy
because they could not
worship the way they
wanted to there. So
they decided to come
to a land where they
could worship God
freely.
The Voyage
• There were 102 men,
women, and children
who traveled in a
ship called the
Mayflower.
• It was a hard
journey as they went
through storms.
• But they finally
reached the land of
America and they
were so happy.
Life on American Soil
• Life on American soil
was tough at first.
The Pilgrims did not
know how to survive in
this New World.
• But then they met a
friendly Indian named
Squanto. He helped
the Pilgrims by showing
them how to fish and
grow corn among other
survival strategies.
The Thanksgiving Feast
• The Pilgrims work hard all
summer. In the fall, they had
plenty of food to eat. They
were thankful and decided to
have a Thanksgiving
celebration.
• They invited the Indians to
help them celebrate. The
chief Indian, Massasoit,
brought 90 Indians to the
feast and they also brought
food.
• The feast lasted for 3 days.
They ate and played games.
Everyone had a wonderful
time and they were thankful
for their blessings.
Conclusion
