wanted to go to
their own church
instead of the
church the King
said they had to go

problem?

most of their time
doing chores.

learn to read and
write.
• Most girls could not go
to school; they had to
stay home and work

Why are the Pilgrims
important?
• They celebrated what we now call
Thanksgiving.
• Today we remember their hard work
and have a holiday to show how thankful
