Measurement/Evaluation/
Assessment – The difference
O Measurement refers to observations that can be expressed
quantitatively. Measurement refers to assessment that is
expressed numerically like-75% in Mathematics or A grade in
English
O Evaluation implies the concept of value judgment for
example; a single measurement (like 75%) is compared with
contemporary measurements of a group
O Assessment means to assess the worth of the individual
either to award him a job or a higher level of course of study

Why Diagnostic?
Because there are
learning gaps or illnesses
in learning
Possible reasons for these learning
gaps or illnesses in learning.
O Holidays
O Change of school/teacher/methods etc.
O Varying abilities of the student in the class
O Unclear instructions by the teacher
O Assessment parameters unknown
O Complicated methods used in teaching
O Connectivity lost in learning
Example:
Diagnostic/ Problem
Solving PTM
VS.
A Complaint Day
Antibiotics in the
Scholastic Aspect
O Different tests or exam formats to diagnose learning gaps
O Testing and examinations are just tools of learning not the end
O Examples:
1. Pen Paper Test
2. Open Book Examinations
3. Revision Through Teaching Sessions
4. Open Web Examinations
5. Confidence Level Rating( CLR)
6. Partial Credit Model(PCM)

Open Book Exams –
Vitamin B Complex
O Refer text books or notes while attempting the paper
O Develops critical thinking
O Develops creative thinking
O Diagnose the learning gap without making the child
conscious
Revision Through Teaching
– Confidence Booster
O This is a concept where learning is done by the
student while teaching a concept to the junior classes
O The child is assessed on various parameters like body
language, voice quality, intonation, concept clarity,
method of delivery etc.
O It really acts as great diagnostic test as well as an
antibiotic because while presentation the gaps are
visible and get identified
O Feedback in the form of antibiotic is given there and
then
Knowledge Polish
(A Folic Acid Tablet)
O This is a concept where a student is made to polish
his knowledge acquired during a specific period of
time
O It is like a revision capsule for work done so far but is
not like a formal examination
O It aims at implanting a threat free, fearless concept
of examination so that the performance could be
maximized
O A pre orientation towards examination before the final
delivery is done through this tablet

Time Line - Yakult
O This is given to the students at two stages:
• When the child comes from another school or another
state or country and there are lots of gaps due to the
curriculum mapping process
• When studying in the same school learning gaps occur
due to frequent absenteeism , or slow grasping or
absorption or change of teacher or teaching method or
inappropriate teaching method ,lack of reinforcement
or revisions etc.
Time Line
For exampleChapter 1: The Green Plants
Teacher’s Comment: Chahat is able to answer three questions
with low as well as high difficulty value but she could not answer Q14.
She needs to revise some of the basic concepts like structure of leaf.
Software used: CTT and IRT software
Bi- Monthly Dosages
O Bi- monthly multi vitamin tablets prescribed for revision
O Given two months in advance before the lesson is
actually taught
O An alternative to tuitions
O Boosts confidence of a student
Exam Capsules
O An exercise to reduce fear before actually attempting
the exams
O The child can practice various possible formats of the
tests before actually appearing for the real one
O Reinforces the concepts so that nothing is left out of
syllabus and the child does not need to vomit out
what he crams in the paper
Concept Maps –
Confidence Boosters
Chapter Connect –
A Multi Vitamin Tablet
O The disconnect from one set of book to all
other options available is possible with this
book where nothing remains out of syllabus
O The extra information relevant to a topic is
what helps a child clear Olympiads and
other kind of exams
