Key Messages
The “big ideas” are found in the National
Science Education Standards, developed by
the National Research Council.
 A key point in determining “big ideas” is
“how” the content is taught rather than
“what” is taught.
 Understanding the entry directions, what’s
valued, and important aspects will facilitate
completion of the entry.

