• Develop a set of requirements for layer-2 independent light-weight
flexible edge protocol that allows users to register in a network
• Define a generic registration protocol that allows:
• a user to register in the local network by providing identity and
authentication information
• the network to validate the user using AAA infrastructure
•Provide features such as
• Flexible authentication
• Access control
• Disconnect indication
• user-to-network AAA functions where legacy mechanisms are not available
