Merrill’s First Principles of Instruction • • • A set of basic instructional principles “in spite of the diversity represented the various instructional theories and models, the underlying principles for all of those theories are fundamentally the same” (Merrill, 2009, p. 55) The effectiveness, efficiency, and engagement of an instructional practice are a function of the degree to which these principles are implemented.
