Connexium Managed Switch
Management Tools
● The Connexium Managed Switch offer includes a range of tools
enabling Engineering and Maintenance Personnel to configure,
diagnose, and monitor switches
● Additional management tools provide the ability to store and retrieve
switch configuration files for backup and the ability to upload the
configuration file to the switch.
● The Web based switch configurator allows the selection of the
diagnostic capabilities that best suit the application and facility
requirements.
● Switch Configurator software, which is included with the switch,
discovers switches and allows configuration of the IP, subnet and
gateway addresses.

Management Tools
● Command Line Interface (CLI) - Script file based tool to configure
switch functions via a local serial connection to the V24 serial port or
remote connection via telnet.
● Telnet Server - Allows users to configure the switch using CLI over an
Ethernet connection
● Web-based Interface - Allows users to configure and diagnose the
switch via web pages accessed with a standard browser.
● Remote Monitoring (RMON) - A standard network management
protocol that allows monitoring and protocol analysis of a local area
network gathered at a single workstation.
● Backup – Storage of secondary Switch configuration file on a memory
adapter (EAM), to a server via TFTP, or to a PC.
● DHCP Option 82 - Allows a DHCP server that supports option 82 to
assign the same IP address to any device connected to a particular
switch port.

Connexium Managed Switch
Command Line Interface (CLI)
● A Script File based tool to configure switch functions
● Uses a local serial connection to the V24 serial port or remote
connection via a telnet connection.
● Allows switches to be configured or partially configured
● Enables the comparison of 2 configurations by comparing the script
files.
● Typical local configuration:

Connexium Managed Switch
Web-based Interface
● Web based interface to configure and access switch diagnostic data.
● Uses a standard web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
● Allows access to the switch locally or from any location in the network.
● Web browser applet which communicates with the device via the
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
● Managed switches support both SNMP and Web-based management
and can thus offer:
● Extensive diagnostic and configuration functions for fast startup
● Extensive network and device information

Remote Monitoring (RMON)
● A standard network management protocol that allows monitoring and
protocol analysis of a local area network from a single workstation
● Defines MIBs that provide data (current and historical) that illustrate the
performance of the network.)
● An example of data provided, including packets sent, bytes sent, and
packets dropped:

Switch Configuration Backup
● Connexium Switches offer options for backup and loading of switch
configuration data.
● The options to load a configuration file include:
● Load a configuration saved on the switch
● Load a configuration stored on a PC
● Load a configuration stored as a specific URL
● Load a configuration stored on a specific URL and saved on the switch
● The options to save a configuration file, include:
● Save to the switch
● Save to a specific URL, in either binary or script format
● Save to a PC, in either binary or script format
● Select URL address for stored configuration file
● Save /Load Configuration file to EAM (memory backup adapter)

Memory Backup Adapter
● The switch configuration data can be stored on an EAM (model number
TCSEAM0100) for recovery and security.
● EAM enables a very simple configuration data transfer to a substitute
switch of the same type

TFTP Back-Up Configuration File
● The switch configuration can be stored on a central server
● The replacement configuration file can be forwarded to new device via
TFTP
TFT server

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Option 82
● DHCP server can configure a switch (IP address etc.) based on system
name
● During startup operation, a switch receives its configuration data and
the IP address is assigned based on the switch’s system name
● DHCP Option 82 allows a switch to assign the same IP address to a
device that is connected to a particular port.
