ABOUT THE VILLAGE
 A remote village at southern end of Udipi district of Karnataka State
 Population of about 10,000
 Mainly consist of fishing and agricultural workers
 Currently has only a government run Kannada medium school which is in the
verge of closure.
 Estimated to have about 350 children who travel over 2 hours to attend the
school in City.
 Drop out rate is high due to high cost of private English medium education and
non availability of school near by.
ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
 Established in 1950 in the name of Hejamadi Kodi Vidya Prasara Ex Students
Association. It is an association primarily consist of ex-students of school in the
Village.
 Registered as a society under Society Registration Act of Karnataka and also
obtained 80G Income Tax certificate.
 Key accomplishments:
 Constructed the complex of three buildings in 1954 for Kannada Medium
School with capacity of 800 students. Government is currently running this
school. Visuals of these school buildings are shown in last two slides.
 Continuously extended support to the Kannada medium school in the
village by providing free books, uniforms, scholarships to poor students
and supported the school by providing additional teachers, computers etc.
 Donated over 2 acres of land for play ground to the government run school
and for construction of High School.
 Constructed staff quarters for the teachers of government run school as an
incentive to bring them to this remote village.
 Running nursery pre-school for last 30 years with free mid-day meal.
PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVE
• To establish English Medium primary and secondary school.
• To make available free/subsidized English medium primary and secondary
level of education to the village children.
• To achieve zero school drop-out rate in the village and increase the literacy
level;
• To provide better standard education of education than currently available in
nearby city with following additional facilities:
> Karate class
> Sports & Cycling
> Computer – E education

 Project will be implemented in two phases.
> During first phase the primary school up to 5th standard will be set
up.
> In the second phase school will be expanded to include 6th to 10th
standards.

PROGRESS SO FAR AND FURTURE PLAN
 Started the lower KG and Upper KG since April 2010 and




response was good. As of now, total of 95 children are
attending lower and upper Kg.
Acquired land admeasuring one acre for the school. Land
filling and construction of approach road started on
November 15th, 2012 and completed.
Received license from government to set up the school.
Construction of school building already started and
expected to be completed by April, 2014.
First batch of class from 1st to 3rd standard will begin from
June, 2014.
