 Gives youth real-world information about the cost of
housing
Advantages of
graduated
rent
 Motivates youth to increase income while in program
and likely exit with a higher income
 Creates saving account for youth at end of the program
to be used for security deposit or something else
 Places an emphasis that transition into independent
living will occur soon
Challenges of
graduated
rent approach
 Need to remember exactly where each youth is on the
rent schedule
 Need to carefully account for youth’s money so that all
rent “above” what they receive in their stipend is saved
on their behalf
 Need to increase income of youth
 13 approved providers (*10 are THP-Plus providers)
