Data Technology Project
Our Purpose
 “ To functionally support and complete a COMPSTAT
approach by interoperable data sharing using a
common standard data language (XML).”
 Two Phased Approach: Data and Communications
1. Crash Reporting
2. Reduction of Crash Fatalities
3. Traffic & Crime Analysis
4. Communications Consolidation
Project Description

configuration services to install 9 dispatch centers and 830
vehicles with software products.
Records Management System (RMS).
Mobile Data Terminals (MDT or laptop) in the vehicles with the
capability of mapping, Auto Vehicle Locator (AVL), field
reporting, text to voice, citations, and crash reporting.
The project will achieve data interoperability within the
department and position DPS for information exchange with
our federal and local partners.
Traffic Data and Crime information will be available real-time.
Troopers will have more patrol time with increased efficiency
and accuracy relating to reports and admin duties.
Regional Communications Centers
Components
 CAD: Computer-Aided Dispatch

CAD provides communication centers with a configurable and easy to use system.
Allows for electronic and self dispatch, and reduced radio traffic.
 RMS: Law Enforcement Records Management System

RMS will enable DPS to easily and efficiently manage records, incident and
arrests information directly to the FBI, state crime information centers, and local
agencies. This would include citations, warnings, incident reports, crash reports.
 MDT: Mobile Data Terminal

MDTs keep troopers connected to CAD dispatch information from their laptops.
Using a wireless network through a message switch, troopers can retrieve call
information. They can also update incident records, unit status, and run queries against
the records management system.
 FBR: Field Based Reporting

FBR allows officers to enter reports from the field directly into laptop computers.
During data entry, a forms-based tool ensures that all data entered meets state reporting
guidelines.
 AVL: Auto Vehicle Locater

AVL tracks location and movement of troopers in almost real time for officer
safety and officer accountability issues. The location is mapped on a CAD and MDT
system enabling dispatch and the officer to see simultaneously.
Phase I Includes:
Troops C, H, F, and D.
