      2013 – 2014 – Candidacy year Implement the Learner Profile to all students Increase rigor in the classroom Mandatory IB training for teachers Prepare for authorization to become an official IB school 2014-2015 – file application to IB to become an authorized IB school

    Students will be provided with rigorous instruction wrapped in global awareness Students will make connections between subjects and the real world Students will grow into global citizens that care for the world around us Educational rigor provided from an MYP will help prepare students for success in high school and beyond

    Students achieve at higher levels of learning through inquiry, hands-on learning, and international mindedness Classroom lessons are geared towards students’ abilities to make real world connections to various content areas Differentiated instruction with global connections is promoted Rigorous teaching emphasizes critical thinking skills

 Transcends all IB Programs (PYP at Simis; MYP at Meadows and DP at high schools offering IB courses)  Seamless transition from one program to the next where students continue to strive to achieve the 10 traits of the learner profile

The IB Learner Profile

- 10 traits students strive to possess as an IB Learner - Focuses on the whole person with emphasis on intellectual, personal, emotional, and social growth - Students maintain and grow on the continuum of learning for a life full of active global responsibility

      Traditional Classroom - Teacher is center of learning - Subjects taught in isolation - Traditional tests and learning experiences - Learning linked to subject with hopes that student will make connections with the world around them on their own - Participation in foreign language is optional        IB MYP Classroom - Student is center of learning - Connections are made among all subject areas - Authentic, real-world assessments and learning experiences - Learning is linked to the world around us through areas of interaction - Participation in a foreign language is mandatory - Students aim to fulfill the Learner Profile
