• CDC states that children ages 6-11, who are
overweight has increased nearly 300%
during the past 25 years.
• This may be the first generation of Children
NOT to outlive their parents.
• Healthcare costs due to overweight and
obesity have increased to $100 billion

and obese

becoming overweight
Absenteeism and Inactivity

anxiety, and hyperactivity.
• Unhealthy kids miss school more caused by
inactivity and poor nutrition.

Physical Activity and the Brain
• A physically active child will have an advantage in
learning versus their inactive counterparts. (Dr.
Germund Hesslow).
• Mental focus and concentration levels in young
children improve significantly after engaging in
structured physical activity.
• Vigorous aerobic exercise improves short-term
memory, creativity and reaction time.
• Aerobic activity not only increases blood flow to the
brain, but also speeds recall and reasoning skills.
• “Exercise puts the brain of the learners in the
optimal position for them to learn.” John Ratey, MD
BRAIN P.E.
• We are building nerve networks in the brain
for life-long learning.
• Stimulates cross brain hemisphere
activity.
• Increases faster communication
between the two hemispheres.
• Increases integrated high level
reasoning
• Effective for everyone and increases
performance in all cognitive endeavors
